The EU programme titled Industry 5.0 aims to employ research and innovation to achieve a more sustainable and human-centric European industry. Some of the work within this initiative is carried out at Karlstad University.

Guro Gravem Johansen is originally from Troms in northern Norway where she grew up on a farm close to the sea. She is a trained jazz singer with a bachelor’s and master’s degree as well as a PhD in music education from the Norwegian Academy of Music.
The research project on society-centred industry 5.0 – headed by Jorge Solis – has been selected for the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences’ (IVA) 100 List of 2024. The theme of this year’s list is innovation through interdisciplinary research.
– I feel very honoured that our research is on this year’s 100 List, says Jorge Solis, associate professor in electrical engineering at Karlstad University.

As its name indicates, the generic specialisation rhythmic and improvised music (Ri) concentrates on improvised rhythmic playing. This is one of the three generic areas at Ingesund School of Music (MHI).
At MHI, rhythmic and improvised music corresponds to styles previously known as under the umbrella terms Afro-American Tradition or Jazz. At many other Nordic music schools, these styles are simply known as rhythmic music.

What kind of support do people with acquired brain injury and their kin receive from healthcare social workers? And how do they experience that support? These are the main questions in doctoral student Monika Högsnes’ licentiate thesis at the CRS Research School in Sustainable Societal Transformation.
Monika Högsnes is a social worker with a Master’s degree in Social Work. She began her doctoral studies at Karlstad University in spring 2022.
