How to Apply
Here you can learn more about how to apply to one of our programs at Karlstad University. There are many important aspects to consider, so please read the information carefully. We recommend that students start the application process as early as possible to allow enough time to gather all the necessary documents.

The academic year starts every year in August. The process of applying starts almost a year in advance. Applications for our international programs are open from mid-October to mid-January.
All applications must be submitted through universityadmissions.se, Sweden’s national application system.
Before you apply
Before you apply, we advise you to read all information about what it is like to study in Sweden and Karlstad.
Step-by-step application guide
1. Choose your programmes
Explore our programmes and find one or more programmes that fit your interests. On the programme pages, you can find detailed information about each programme: the courses, career opportunities, sustainability focus, and interviews with students and graduates. If you find it hard to choose, you can also connect with a student from the programme.
2. Check the admission requirements
You can find the admission requirements for the programmes you want to apply to on the programme pages. There are both general and programme-specific requirements. As the number of places for each programme is limited and admission is highly competitive, meeting the admission requirements is a must. If you have the background to meet the requirements, you are ready to start your application.
3. Submit your application by 15 January
You apply through University Admissions, the Swedish national application system. Create an account and select your programmes. You can select up to four programmes and rank them in your order of priority.
4. Submit your required documents by 3 February
Upload all necessary documents to your University Admissions account. Early submission is recommended to allow time for corrections if needed. Documentation requirements may vary by country. Make sure to read the instructions on how to submit your documents.
5. Pay the application fee by 3 February
If you are not an EU, EEA, or Swiss citizen, you must pay a SEK 900 application fee. There are no application fee waivers. You can pay the fee directly on the University Admission website. If you are exempt, proof of citizenship (e.g., a copy of your passport) is required.
6. Check the admission results on 27 March
Results are published on your University Admissions account. No confirmation is needed if admitted. Karlstad University will contact you with further instructions on preparing for your arrival.
7. Admitted? - Congratulations
Did you get admitted - congratulations! We are looking forward to seeing you in the fall. In the meantime, it's time to process all the practicals for your arrival. You may move on to the next step!
