The appearance of your dinner date affects whether you want to spend money on healthy or unhealthy alternatives from the menu, but only if you are a woman. The more attractive women find their company, the more likely they are to buy healthy food. Men are rather more likely to buy expensive drinking and dining options.

Academic Celebration 2023

Academic Celebration 2023 will be celebrated on 20 October in Aula Magna at Karlstad University. All professors and honorary doctors are presented at Karlstad CCC in the morning and installed and promoted at the ceremony in the afternoon.
On Wednesday, October 30, the computer science department hosted a thesis project fair to help establish connections between students who have applied for thesis projects for the spring and potential sponsors. 11 companies and organizations participated along with around 40 students. "It was great to see so many people come and want to participate.
Interventions increase the chances of succeeding in changing and maintaining a new behavior in the long run. This is shown in a recently published study from CTF, Service Research Center at Karlstad University. "Interventions are about promoting a behavioral change with targeted programs or services," says Frida Skarin, Doctoral Student in Psychology and main author of the article.

Robots, drones and intelligent systems interacting with humans were some of the topics raised during the WASP-HS graduate school's winter conference. One of the participants was Petter Falk, PhD student at CTF. WASP-HS funds a large number of PhD students to give them the best possible start towards becoming the AI researchers of tomorrow.

Commuting between the two work places takes an unusually long time – about 32 hours of travel from door to door. How come you work here in Karlstad? - I came in contact with Information Systems at the beginning of the 2000’s and have had cooperation with Samot and CTF.
The alumnus of the month is a teacher, who decided to build his career on two legs: music and history. He thinks that the principle of mastering one instrument is a universal tool applicable to just about anything. Name: Johan Blückert Age: 32 Family: Co-habitant and a father-to-be Education: Teacher of music and history Profession: Teacher at Bollnäs Folkhögskola. Johan grew up in the small mill town Vretstorp, some Sw. miles south of Örebro.
The University Library is an important hub at our institution. It’s where students, researchers and lecturers meet – and receive support from skilled librarians! Mas Karin Gustafsson is one of the dedicated individuals who help generate new knowledge. Mas Karin Gustafsson has worked as a librarian at the University Library since 2022. What drew her to apply for the position was the opportunity to be part of a place where new knowledge is both created and shared.

ITQ – the network for girls studying IT at universities and practitioners in business, celebrated 10 years with cake, guest lectures, and not least mingle and networking. The guest was Siduri Poli, the digital inspirer of 2017, who told of her interest for technology as a tool for change. Present were also current IT students, high school students from Fria Läroverken as well as professionals from CGI, Ibiz solutions, Municipality of Karlstad, Netgain, Sogeti and ÅF.
The tech corporations’ algorithms are well-kept secrets. Three researchers, two of which come from Karlstad University, have now made progress and managed to catch a glimpse of what governs what you are exposed to on Facebook. Researching algorithms is hard, since it is impossible to gain access to the tech corporations’ systems. They are clouded in a technological fog, and the people behind them are contractually bound to secrecy.
... you have spent two months in New Zealand, what did you do there? "I spent two wonderful months as a visiting researcher at the University of Auckland Business School working with a large group of people including: Suvi Nenonen, Julia Fehrer, Rod Brodie, Charlotta Windahl and Kaj Storbacka at the University of Auckland, and Jonathan Baker at the Auckland University of Technology.
John-Erik Hassel recently completed his PhD in business administration at Karlstad Business School and The Service Research Center (CTF) and has done research on venture builders. John-Erik Hassel, tell us about your research – My research is about understanding a relatively new actor in entrepreneurial ecosystems called venture builders and how they can be understood in a larger context.
