Frequently asked questions
May I invite more guests to the ceremony than to the dinner?
Yes, you may, but no more than 6 persons. Indicate the number in the appropriate box when you register via the link.
Should guests only attending the ceremony wear formal attire?
No, this is not required. Accompanying guests or staff in the audience are recommended to follow the dress code Kavaj, that is, a suit for men and matching dress for women.
What does the dress code ”Formal attire” (Frack) mean?
This dress code means white tie/evening dress, that is, tail-coat, white waistcoat and bow tie for men, and evening dress/ball dress for women. Folk costume and kilt are also formal attire. The term also includes military formal uniform and a clergyman’s robe. (Karlstad University has chosen NOT to require academic formal attire which means tail-coat with black waistcoat and black long dress).
How do I sign-up for the bus transfer from Karlstad University to KCCC?
Sign-up for the transfer when you register via the link by indicating the number of guests, including yourself, who wish to use the transfer service.
How should I handle the doctor’s hat that I ordered for the ceremony?
New doctors at Karlstad University receive a laurel in the ceremony. If you have ordered a hat, bring it and keep it under your seat in Aula Magna. After the ceremony you may wear the hat during the procession out of the Aula Magna. Do not forget to keep your laurel. Bring your bandbox and leave it in the cloakroom during dinner if you wish.
When can I start wearing the doctor’s ring?
If you have acquired a doctor's ring, you can wear it immediately after you have been promoted. As many of our doctors do not acquire a doctor's ring, we have chosen to symbolize the ceremonial ritual "Receive the ring", the insignia that symbolizes that he or she swears allegiance to science, by virtually receiving the ring from the promoter’s hand.
I’m a professor and have a doctor’s hat. When and how should this be worn during the procession and ceremony?
Keep your hat under your arm during the procession into the Aula Magna. When the Dean of your faculty puts on his hat during the ceremony, you do the same.
We have small children and would like to know if the university will accept their presence at the ceremony and dinner?
The academic celebration is not a suitable event to bring children to. It is a long ceremony and emergency exit rules forbid prams and push-chairs in the hall. If finding a baby-sitter is a problem, ask a near relative to come along and notify us so we can reserve a place near an exit in of any disturbance. We respectfully ask that you do not bring small children to the dinner. Children aged 12 and above are welcome, but the cost is the same (excluding alcoholic beverages) and no alternative menu is offered.
