Researchers at CTF, Service Research Center at Karlstad University, have been granted funding from the research council Formas, to plan and further develop the project "Social dimensions in urban and regional planning: the importance of perceived accessibility". The researchers will, in close collaboration with urban and regional planners and practitioners, develop a joint project about everyday travel and perceived accessibility.

Marit Engen is our second new postdoctoral researcher that have joined CTF this year. Marit Engen completed her PhD in 2016 at Inland Norway University of Applied Sciences, Lillehammer. Her research interest lies in the area of service innovation, and her doctoral thesis, "Frontline employees as participants in service innovation processes – Innovation by Weaving", focused on service innovation processes, and in particular the involvement of frontline employees.

We have now published our annual report for 2020. In the report, we summarize the past year and share highlights of our research and collaboration with partners from academia, business and the public sector. 2020 was a different and challenging year marked by the corona pandemic. Despite the challenges with restrictions and new routines, we managed to perform at a continuously high level and drive research forward.

Internationalisation is one of Karlstad University’s six strategic goals. The university promotes internationalisation in various ways, with regard to both teachers and students. Erasmus + ICM provides the opportunity for students to travel to countries outside of Europe in order to conduct field studies and complete degree projects. Two students at Karlstad University’s nursing programme have visited Believers Church Medical Hospital, BCMCH, in Kerala, India.

Prof. Kai Holzweissig presents his thoughts on this subject from a paper by Gregor and Hevner. He will also present some of his research on social software and management of formal new product development processes. The NEAT project won the Best Demo Award at the IFIP Networking conference, in Stockholm (June 12-15, 2017). The Demo was presented by Zdravko Bozakov (Dell EMC) on behalf of all the authors. The demo, titled "A NEAT framework for application-awareness in SDN environments", is joint work from KaU and Dell EMC illustrating how NEAT can be integrated in an SDN scenario.

SweDigArch has been awarded funding from the Swedish Research Council to create a national infrastructure for digital archaeology. The new infrastructure is a collaborative venture between six Swedish universities, the National Heritage Board and National Historical Museums. SweDigArch is a unique initiative that will link data from research, archaeological excavations and digitized museum collections.

Studies have shown that working conditions in elderly care have deficiencies that worsen over time, associated with high sick leave and high staff turnover.
