The UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) Northern Europe is an action-oriented network that mobilizes Nordic scientific and technological expertise to promote integrated approaches to implement the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Paris Agreement. Its particular focus is on localizing the SDGs, teaching sustainable development and supporting their implementation, in particular through Solution Initiatives and Long-term Pathways.

There are many ways to understand principals' way of practicing school leadership. In this survey study, we explore how principals' actions are related with teachers' expectations of the principal assignment. How this social role is practised depends on the expectations placed on the position of the role in the social system in which it is included, but also on the expectations of the function to be fulfilled.
The History research seminar is the main forum for historical discussion at the Department of History at Karlstad University. Researchers and PhD students at the department present their research, and we also invite guests from other universities, nationally and internationally. Seminars are held in Swedish or English. Most are open events, welcoming staff and Master students as well as local historians and professionals outside academia.

A new study in the SELMA project at Karlstad University, Sweden, shows that flooring material of soft PVC in the home is a source for uptake of phthalates in pregnant women, phthalates that are considered dangerous in the EU chemical regulation system. PVC flooring often contain phthalates to make the plastic soft.

The panel aims to present research at Lund University’s Gender Studies Department on the regulation of sexuality and gender expressions, both imposed from above and as activist initiatives defining the boundaries for acceptable sexual behaviour and claiming the right of defining one’s own sexuality, gender expression, identity formation and bodily integrity.

Solar cell researchers from Karlstad University have once again conducted experiments in zero gravity during parabolic flights in Bordeaux, France. The aim is to study how the structure of the active layer of the polymer solar cell is formed, to thereby be able to increase its efficiency. – This is the second time we have conducted experiments during parabolic flights, says Jan van Stam, Professor of Physical Chemistry at Karlstad University.

Soon we can put another eventful and challenging year behind us and look forward to new ideas, exciting research and education. When I look back and summarize the past year, there are several important achievements and notable results. First, and most important, are the efforts everyone has made in these challenging times.

On November 7-8, Karlstad University hosted the inaugural Security Divas Sweden, a national conference focusing on cybersecurity and information security that aims to spotlight women in these fields. The event was organized by Karlstad University in collaboration with the Compare Foundation. The conference welcomed eleven female role models who shared key insights on topics such as information influence, data protection and current perspectives on cybersecurity.

Researchers at the Service Research Center (CTF) at Karlstad University have written a report about Nordic food waste with recommendations for political measures. The message is clear: – We can either take forceful action right now, or else abandon the goal of reducing food waste by 50 percent by 2030. The researchers have identified initiatives and measures that resulted in less food waste in restaurants, schools, retail businesses and Nordic households.

Starting January 1st 2017 Per Kristensson will be the director of CTF. He succeeds Henrietta Huzell who will start her new assignment as vice dean at Karlstad University. - It is very exciting. It is really motivating to work with so many talented researchers here at CTF and in our extensive international network. Our research benefits the community, businesses and people, says Per Kristensson. Per Kristensson is a professor of consumer psychology and innovation at CTF.
