Daring requires a great deal of curiosity and courage, and being wise within academia demands that you are constantly prepared to be critically examined. Knowledge and methods must be presented in such a way that they can be questioned.
Cormac McCarthy, author of novels such as Blood Meridian, Cities of the Plain, and The Road, is the subject of a new dissertation from Karlstad University. Fredrik Svensson highlights neglected aspects of a decades-long authorship that has produced a considerable number of novels, plays, and screenplays.
McCarthy’s oeuvre spans over five decades, from the 1960s to the early 2000s, and includes ten novels.

Week 43 coincides with both UNESCO’s Global MIL Week and SPARC’s Open Access Week. To highlight this, the University Library is organising three events. Two of them require registration, one by 17 October and one by 20 October at the latest.
First up is a film screening followed by a talk with the director, in the afternoon Tuesday 24 October. The film will be shown at Filmstaden in central Karlstad and is organised together with Region Värmland.

TRUEdig investigates how businesses that develop privacy-enhancing services also can increase users’ security and sense of empowerment.
The project is run by CTF and is carried out together with computer science at Karlstad University.
This year, a commission led by Peter Honeth – former state secretary at the Ministry of Education and Research – has been working on behalf of the government to develop a series of proposals to improve teacher education.

On 10 December, the third Mathematics Meets Industry Day (MIMM®) was arranged at Karlstad University. Representatives from Kongsberg, Region Värmland, and Uddeholm participated, and together with upper secondary school students, university students, and researchers they tried to find mathematical solutions for previously unsolved problems.

In early February, you and Jörg Pareigis participated in the conference ”ICDE Lifelong Learning Summit” in Lillehammer, Norway. Can you tell us about the conference?
- The conference is a meeting place where academia, the public and private sector meet to discuss the challenges around disseminating knowledge for lifelong learning.
Media and Communication Studies in Karlstad arranges several different types of seminars, the most common of which are research seminars, journalism seminars, and Geomedia speaker series.
Our research seminars feature visits from external guests as well as presentations of in-house research that is conducted in the subject.
The Ander Journalism Seminar is a collaboration with the Anne-Marie and Gustaf Ander foundation for media research and is usually arranged once
Regardless of Karlstads size there is quite a lot of things going on if you know how to find it.
At the Visit Karlstad webpage there is information about most things happening in and around the city from events to sightseeing, concerts, etc.Take a look for inspiration!We would also like to mention a facility called Fritidsbanken, which is located at Fagottgatan 4 close to the University. Welcome to the subject of History at Karlstad University! We are part of the Department of Political, Historical, Religious, and Cultural Studies.
Are you curious about history? Would you like to understand how today’s society was formed or how your ancestors lived? If you are, you can take one of the History courses at Karlstad University. History has been offered as an academic subject in Karlstad since 1967.
The NoRD2018 organizers invite submissions to the 10th Nordic Workshop on Relationship Dynamics. NoRD workshops are open to all researchers in the areas of Marketing and Management (or related areas); the ‘Nordic’ title simply refers to the locations and people organizing the workshops.
NoRD focuses on dynamics in buyer-seller relationships (both b-to-c and b-to-b relationships).

Current research at Karlstad University is focused on aquatic ecosystems and terrestrial habitats. With the knowledge that the two environments impact and strongly depend on each other, it is important to study the connection between them.

Geomedia 2015 provides a genuinely interdisciplinary arena for research carried out at the crossroads of Geography, Media and Film Studies.
The PhD Mini Conference (doctoral colloquium) will be held at Karlstad University on October 22-23, 2024, alongside the main FEKIS conference. The PhD Mini Conference starts on October 22 after lunch (following the FEKIS PhD course in the morning), and will be held in a constructive, collaborative, inclusive and friendly environment.
The PhD Mini Conference will commence with a keynote of an internationally recognised research leader.
