A great opportunity to make a real difference - Biology
Current research at Karlstad University is focused on aquatic ecosystems and terrestrial habitats. With the knowledge that the two environments impact and strongly depend on each other, it is important to study the connection between them.
Insects hatch in water, fly over both watercourses and land. They can either provide a food source for terrestrial animals or fall into the water they once came from and become food for fish. There is a need for more knowledge of how these two systems affect each other.
- We are looking for someone with an interest in the way water and land interconnect, says Lutz Eckstein, Professor of Biology. We need to become better at connecting these two areas to make it easier to identify cause, effect, connection and interaction. We are therefore looking for someone who also wants to help us clarify this link.
Competences that supplement one another
The team at Karlstad University consists of researchers and doctoral students of different ages. As a young researcher, it is easy to become part of the group. There is a mix of different personalities and different interests, but they all agree on a common vision of a broad, basic research base where knowledge is easily accessible and easy to apply.
-It is a good mix of people, says Lutz. We differ and complement each other while sharing common goals that we work to achieve.
National and international networks
The researchers’ diverse backgrounds and experiences also contribute to a large national and international network. The size of the university and the fact that it is a young university is something Lutz Eckstein describes as positive. Exchange of experience and knowledge flows easily between the institutes and researchers at the university.
- Everything close at hand! As a member of staff, you feel included and that you are an active part of the university. The opening as associate senior lecturer in biology is a great opportunity for someone with drive to help further the research environment and contribute to the existing research group. With us, you will have the chance to make a real difference. Both in terms of society, animals and nature, Lutz concludes.
