Can the patient journey through healthcare be changed? How are patients treated and why? In a new doctoral thesis, Josina Vink has studied the patient journey and how it can be redesigned. She believes it is not only the physical details that are important when changing the patient journey, but also the whole structure of healthcare, the norms, behaviors and rules.
A large part of care that patients receive today at healthcare centers can equally well be given at home.
Research in English Literature at Karlstad University includes a wide range of areas, and draws on a multiplicity of methodical and theoretical approaches. Regardless of whether it deals with 19th-century fairy tales or novels and films from last year, our work shares a commitment to historicisation, that is, to the effort of approaching the present through the past, and the past through the present.

The world needs more efficient energy systems based on renewable raw material, an equation not easily solved. At Karlstad University, research and education are in progress to find sustainable energy systems, for instance, through a project in which pellets replace charcoal in cooking solutions in Zambia, because cooking with charcoal as fuel leads to extensive deforestation as well as health hazards.

Karlstad is easily accessible by road, rail and air. It's situated about 300 km west of Stockholm, 225 km east of Oslo and 250 km north of Gothenburg (Göteborg).
The trip from Gothenburg to Karlstad takes about 2,5 – 3 hours, and can be made either with bus ( www.swebus.se) or by train (www.sj.se). If you want to stay in Gothenburg before or after the conference its better to buy the train ticket separately from the airport shuttle ticket.

- At the beginning of June, we traveled to Italy for the 8th Naples Forum on Service. It is a research conference that gathers service researchers from all over the world every other year to present and discuss research in service dominant logic, service science and systems theory and complexity theory, says Amie Gustafsson, PhD student in Business Administration.
Non-apologies is a research project conducted at Karlstad University by Peter Wikström and Erica Sandlund. The project concerns public apologies associated with the #MeToo movement, and the reception of these apologies in traditional and social media. You have a doctor's degree in Information Systems. What is your research field?
- My research work is mainly conducted in the area of Information Systems Development.

The project aims to assess the feasibility of NeuroACT — skills training based on principles of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy — and the associated changes over time for adolescents with neurodevelopmental disorders. The project is a within-group study conducted at child and adolescent psychiatry services in Karlstad, Sweden.
Our research explores the social dynamics of political and economic inclusion and exclusion. Racism, as an ideology and everyday practice, constitutes an integral part of this focus, as do discourses on cultural values in contemporary processes of both conflict and convivial coexistence.
