English literature – our research

Research in English Literature at Karlstad University includes a wide range of areas, and draws on a multiplicity of methodical and theoretical approaches. Regardless of whether it deals with 19th-century fairy tales or novels and films from last year, our work shares a commitment to historicisation, that is, to the effort of approaching the present through the past, and the past through the present. While we are interested in how literature and other imaginative forms of expression have contributed to shaping our understanding of language, identity, and ideology throughout history, our work is also motivated by our amazement at literature as an endless source of joy.
