Congratulations Diana von Börtzell-Szuch, you have been awarded Mensa Fund Grants 2023. Tell us a bit more about what it is and what you will be doing.
Thank you! I am so happy that my Ph.D. project has been funded.The various Mensa associations in Denmark, Norway, Finland and Sweden together distribute funds each year through the Nordic Mensa Foundation for research into various aspects on different aspects of intelligence.

Karlstad University Library has joined a national open access deal with Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC). The current agreement applies to the years 2025-2026. Open access publishing is free of charge for you as researcher, if you choose any of hybrid or fully open access journals included in the agreement.
How it worksWhen your article is accepted for publishing you (submitting corresponding author) will receive an offer from RSC to make the article open access.

- Thanks. It's great to be back. I'm here to prepare the new joint PhD position between CTF and Eawag. Thankfully, we have a very promising candidate and we now just want to manage the administrative challenges. In addition, I had a meeting with the company Metso yesterday, we discussed one of my former research topics on service business in China.

Kemal, what did you study during your time at Karlstad Business School?
- I have a Degree of Master in Corporate Finance and Accounting, and a Degree of Bachelor in Mathematics, Business Administration and Economics, specialising in Financial Analysis.
Why did you choose to study at Karlstad Business School?
- It was important to me to study at a university with a good balance between theory and practical application of the knowledge.
What barriers do consumers face on the digital market place, and how can these be counteracted? In a project with the Swedish Consumer Agency, researchers at CTF, Service Research Center at Karlstad University, have examined this issue.

This is a rather daring statement but in fact, research from different countries and continents show that this is actually the case.

The project Nordic Digital Health Center -- NDHC, "A testbed for reality", seeks to build a unique testbed in Värmland with the help of future information technology. This testbed should ease the development of new modes of operation and new processes in public institutions that are linked to innovations, development and evaluation of IT-solutions.
Care services are the main focus, but also other welfare services are being addressed.
Mia Larson, professor of business administration at CTF and Karlstad Business School at Karlstad University, is one of the authors behind a newly published article where she, together with other researchers, have studied the use of the cultural concepts of “fika” and “hygge” in destination marketing.
"The concept of fika has existed in Sweden for about 100 years. It is used by Swedes as a common expression for drinking coffee accompanied by something sweet.
An open seminar was held by the Risk- and Envronmental studies discipline on Friday 15 November, where Avit Bhowmik talked about his work on the Exponential Climate Action Roadmap.

Lately, there have been reports in the media worldwide about security flaws in Zoom. However, the section of Zoom provided by Karlstad University’s supplier SUNET is not affected by these security flaws to the same extent.
“Employees and students at Karlstad University can feel safe when using Zoom,” says Monika Allöv Andersson, responsible for the Zoom service at Karlstad University IT Department.

STAFF EXCHANGEDoctoral students can apply for student exchange and practical placement within Erasmus+, and if they teach they can do teaching assignments in Erasmus+ as long as they fulfil the criteria for the programme. For third-cycle study, the criteria stipulate full-time study at the third-cycle level at an international institution and for the course of study to be part of a Karlstad University degree. Research is not included, but work to prepare your thesis is.
You are a professor of Marketing and Head of the Department of Marketing and the Institute for Marketing Management at Vienna University of Economics and business (WU Vienna). Can you tell us about your research?
– My primary areas of research are marketing, innovation, and consumer behavior. My ongoing research projects revolve around diverse topics such as creativity, groundedness, new product ideation, and sustainability.

This year's Service Innovation Day attracted just under 200 visitors to Karlstad.

The language café at the university library will continue during the spring semester 2018.
The language café will take place every tuesday between 4 pm - 6 pm. The time and place are the same but now students are in charge of the café.
The Language Café is aimed for anyone who wants to improve there spoken Swedish, but you need to be able to speak and understand some Swedish to participate.

- My area of research is in psychology and I look at how people, as customers or users think, feel and act when they buy goods and services from businesses.
