The library’s collections comprise books, journals, reference works, etc., both in printed and electronic format. Erik Wästlund, Lecturer in Psychology and researcher at CTF, appears in the latest issue of the popular science magazine Scientific American. The article talks about how people easier understand and remember text on paper compared to text on a screen.
- As a part of my Ph D thesis I conducted a study where I compared reading comprehension between paper and screen. The results showed that text on paper was easier to understand.
Computational design optimization is a research area in which simulations are combined with computational optimization algorithms to find the best design for different components.
Computer simulations are now an important cost- and time-effective complement to traditional prototype-based product development. Thus, computational design optimization is a natural part of the digitalization of the manufacturing industry.

The national library consortium Bibsam has come to an agreement with Elsevier which enables KaU researchers to publish open access free of charge in a large selection of Elsevier journals.
The group´s research is focusing on processing of raw materials with biological origin, which can be further processed into a large number of technically useful products.

When should I not use OneSearch?
In some cases it is better to use the specific topic databases and the library catalog if you want to do more specialized searches.
OneSearch contains few Swedish journals and special databases.

So, should Hilary Clinton now question the result? Melanie Volkamer, professor of Computer Science at Karlstad University, researches on e-voting and says that the systems used today could be questioned but there are ways of avoiding this.

Researchers from several European countries gathered for a two-day workshop at Karlstad University. The general theme was research on polymers and their application for organic solar cells and energy storage.
– There are several purposes behind the workshop, says Jan van Stam, Professor of Physical Chemistry. We want to learn from other experts, expand our networks and make new contacts, as well as putting Karlstad University on the map in this field of research.
