How do I print out?
The printing system at Karlstad University is called Kauprint. With Kauprint you can send files to printers online and then pick up your files at any campus printer. The printers can also be used for scanning and emailing files. You are only allowed to copy/scan in accordance with the Bonus agreement or for personal use. Read more here.

How do I read e-books?
All our e-books can be read online without logging in or using special programs. If you would like to make notes, print or download you may also need to create a personal account with the vendor.
Outside campus students and employees need to login with their KauID to use the e-books.
E-books come in different formats, the most common are PDF or EPUB. Both formats can be open or copyrighted.

The KAU card is a personal card that functions as a keycard, library card and print card.
Updates May 2024: After a major system upgrade the order portal has changed, and the new cards will have a different layout. The current KAU-cards will not be affected by this, though! You simply keep your card and continue using it normally.

The library subscribes to 12 000 journals, both Swedish and International. Most of them are electronic versions, but about 150 are print journals.

Most of the journals are available in electronic form and access is restricted to the University campus.

At the department of Chemical Engineering, Karlstad University, we have a strong research environment around forest products and processes. We are performing research of how pulp and paper should be manufactured and of how the paper should be coated and printed.
About 10 doctoral students are enrolled in our extensive postgraduate programme, half of them being employed directly by the industry.
We welcome purchasing suggestions from our users. Purchased printed books are usually available to be borrowed after about 14 days and ebooks within a week.
Please send an email with information about title, author, isbn, year etc. Also include if the title will be used on a course or not.

Preview ebooks
A few of our ebooks portals offer previews of books not yet acquired and an option to request purchase.
Patrik Pedersen took part in a brainstorming session that Karlstad University arranged in collaboration with Drivhuset within the CriseIT project. Patrik was part of the winning (interdisciplinary) group and has built on the theme of the idea print.

You can find printed Swedish newspapers in the Reading room area on the 2nd floor of the Library. Newspapers are saved there for a number of months. They can not be borrowed from the Library.

Copying and printing from e-books
The library has e-book agreements with a variety of publishers. Each publisher decides whether you may copy or print from an e-book and how many pages that are allowed. Allowances differ from book to book.

Printed maps
The university library has a collection of printed maps like economic and topographic maps, maps of Värmland and some geological maps.
Digital maps
Students and research can access digital map services like GET -Geodata Extraction Tool, through the library. The links can be found in the subject guide.
