From regional development to region building and now social change. The Centre for Region Building (CRS) changes name to Centre for Research on Sustainable Societal Transformation and celebrates the ten-year anniversary of its graduate school. Research fields change with social change. CRS has developed a new research programme and a name change was called for.

From this autumn, Karlstad University is offering a new three-year study programme in computer science for those who like IT and programming, but who are not interested in studying physics, electronics or a lot of mathematics.
“The programme is tailor-made for those who completed upper-secondary school programmes in Science and Technology,” says Tobias Pulls, coordinator of the new programme.

In the spring I earned my doctor’s degree in computer science with a specialization in distributed systems at the University in Bamberg, Germany, where I also earned my Bachelor and Master degrees. But this is not my first time in Sweden.

An Erasmus+ traineeship is normally offered within Europe. There is limited funding to support Erasmus+ traineeships outside Europe. This means that you can apply for an Erasmus+ scholarship, which will be approximately 510 - 615 Euros a month. You can carry out your practical placement at a company, organisation, or research and development centre in any country that is included in the Erasmus+ programme.
TELL-ability is a research project funded by the Swedish Research Council (dnr 2022-02920) conducted at Karlstad University by Erica Sandlund, Birgitta Ljung Egeland, Silivia Kunitz and Christina Olin-Scheller during 2023-2025.

Anyone with an academic degree has the opportunity to move on to the second degree- level, for instance, with a view to changing from one career to another or to specialising in a profession. At Master’s level courses can combine into a one-year or a two-year Master’s degree (60/120 ECTS credits).

Community dance involves the art of dancing, participation and social sustainability through interacting with a local place and local people. In Community Dance the amateurs are experts on their own story and by collaborating with a professional artist they are supported in narrating and communicating it.
In this way Community Dance can function as a tool for social, human as well as artistic development. Community Dance involves embodied understanding.
All Master's programmes are presented here, grouped in areas of interest. At this level, we offer one-year and two-year Master’s programmes as well as professional degree program.
Students who have earned a Bachelor’s or a professional degree of at least 180 ECTS cr. are eligible for admission to master’s-level study.
Graduate School of HealthThe Graduate School of Health has the ambition to offer a strong and creative doctoral education environment in a larger context than what each individual subject can offer. Activities within the Graduate School will strengthen the quality and content of supervision and education and be seen as resources for our doctoral students and also include study social activities.

Loredana Sundberg Cerrato from Dublin gave an intriguing seminar on February 10, 2016.
Loredana, who also presented the ADAPT centre in Dublin this day (see post on the web pages of Information Systems), gave an in-depth view on research on dialogue supporting machine translation between languages for the HCI group and Master students.

In this course we work together to produce a stage performance. We add costumes, make up, voice and props to dance and movement and set up an exciting stage performance. Students develop an understanding of the various parts of a production, choreography, role analysis and reflections on artistic perspectives.

Interventions increase the chances of succeeding in changing and maintaining a new behavior in the long run. This is shown in a recently published study from CTF, Service Research Center at Karlstad University.
"Interventions are about promoting a behavioral change with targeted programs or services," says Frida Skarin, Doctoral Student in Psychology and main author of the article.

The next board meeting is coming up soon. As usual, we compile a report for the board with the latest updates. One thing hits me.
Since the last meeting, we have had three ministers visiting our university or planning to visit us, we have welcomed an astronaut, 2,500 upper-secondary school pupils, met with the Ministry of Education and Research, organised one of Sweden’s largest job fairs and, of course, many other exciting activities as well.
Within Rose, research is conducted within a number of different projects where the starting point is that questions about social, economic and environmentally sustainable societal development need to be posed in relation to teaching and learning. ROSE has a clear socially relevant focus in its research with a focus on exploring areas from a comparative subject didactic perspective.
On Saturday 16 August, it will be exactly one hundred years since our beloved city park, Mariebergsskogen, was inaugurated. Anna Lööf Falkman, CEO and Alumnus of the Year 2015, invites everyone to a festive celebration lasting all day!

Anna Jansson jumped in at the deep end. She has lived in Germany and Ireland, and for the last four years she has called San Francisco home. She started by taking freestanding courses at Karlstad University and today she is brand marketing manager at Google.
