From regional development to region building and now social change. The Centre for Region Building (CRS) changes name to Centre for Research on Sustainable Societal Transformation and celebrates the ten-year anniversary of its graduate school. Research fields change with social change. CRS has developed a new research programme and a name change was called for.
”The former name – Centre for Region Building – was no longer relevant. The research field has expanded nationally as well as internationally, and for CRS the projects are increasingly concerned with sustainable social change. Currently, we study, for example, forest-based sustainable bioeconomy, place-based digital experiences and how families choose a new housing region to have a more sustainable living. The new name better reflects what we study as well as social needs,” says Margareta Dahlström, director of CRS.
Research school 10 years
The CRS research school celebrates its ten-year anniversary this year. So far, ten students have earned a doctor’s degree and sixteen doctoral students are now enrolled.
”The name of the research school will change to Research School on Sustainable Societal Transformation and be more clearly linked to CRS”, says Marie Nordfeldt, co-director of the research school with Majken Jul Sørensen.
Party on 7 November
To celebrate the research school anniversary and CRS’s new name and research programme, a party will be arranged on 7 November at 15.30-16.00, after the CRS seminar "Power structures and resistance".
”There’s no signing up – just come along and bring your colleagues,” says Margareta Dahlström.
CRS new name is Centre for Research on Sustainable Societal Transformation (in Swedish: Centrum för forskning om hållbar samhällsförändring). The new name of the research school is Research School on Sustainable Societal Transformation. The name change is effective from 1 November.
