Presentation of abstractEvery teacher in New Zealand is considered a teacher of gifted students, a reflection of our inclusive education system. However, some teachers have developed specialist knowledge and skills through tertiary education and research.
As the leaves on the trees begin to change colour, it’s time for the Academic Ceremony, one of the biggest events of the year at Karlstad University and a long-standing tradition. In troubled times, it is important to protect unity, cooperation, and team spirit and what we can achieve together, not least in research. On October 18th, we will together confer new doctors, honorary doctors as well as install our new professors.

Avit Bhowmik and Moa Tunström are involved in the international project Alliance of Regional Innovation Ecosystems Based on Smart Sustainable Specialisation Strategies (ARIES4), funded by Erasmus+. Within the framework of the project, they have worked with indicators for sustainable regional development.

We welcome Frida Skarin, new Ph D Student in Psychology at Samot. She will conduct her Ph D studies within the research area Transformative Service Research, and her supervisor is Associate Professor Lars E Olsson.
Frida Skarin has a Master's Degree in Applied Positive Psychology from University of East London. She has previously worked as a teacher in mental coaching and conflict management at the Swedish National Police Academy.

On the morning of 15 May, a drill for emergency personnel will be held on campus in Karlstad.
– The drill will be noticeable to people moving in the immediate area, says Jan Gambring, Chief Security Office at Karlstad University.
The drill includes personnel from the police, Region Värmland, Karlstad Rescue Services and the County Administrative Board in Värmland.

In the morning of Friday 13 December, the Executive Office invites everyone to the traditional Lucia celebration in Aula Magna with choral singing and a reading of the poem “Tomten”.
The choirs Söt Likör and Sällskapet CMB, conducted by Mats Backlund, will be singing traditional Lucia songs, and Vice-Chancellor Jerker Moodysson and Student Union Vice Chair Jonathan Strömberg will together read Viktor Rydberg’s classic poem “Tomten”.

Third-cycle studies are normally pursued in order to complete a doctoral degree. A doctoral degree involves a course of study over four years, equivalent to 240 credits. The programme includes a course component and an independent project (a doctoral dissertation).
The discipline environmental and energy systems is one of more than twenty research disciplines at Karlstad University. Our goal is to conduct a wide multidisciplinary research with international excellence, in collaboration with researchers within and outside Karlstad University. Our strategy is to collaborate on research topics / areas that are processed by research groups of approximately 5-7 people including a research leader.
To achieve better effects in healthcare, new technological innovations should be implemented alongside structural changes.

This venue is chosen partly due to its suitability as a conference venue but also due to the conference double aims of inclusion and sustainability. The school kitchen is fully equipped to prepare Swedish fika (coffee/tea and snack breaks) and cooked lunch for large groups, as well as a and conference. We are able to have 13 parallel sessions in the building we will use.
In addition, the big auditorium can gather all 500 participants at the keynote presentations.
We welcome Alexandre Sukhov, new Ph. D student in Business Administration. He has an interest in the methodologies for service innovations, and is studying the impact of idea refinement and its implications in the idea assessment process. The purpose is to find ways of generating and selecting ideas that lead to an increased rate of product and service innovations.
