The service research community received excellent news for its journals from the 2017 Journal Citation Reports (JCR) by Clarivate Analytics. All seven service research journals covered in Web of Science have increased their impact factors from the previous year. Especially notable is the increase of Journal of Service Research’s impact factor from 2.463 to 6.847.

Transgender Studies presents a rapidly growing and increasingly influential field in contemporary transdisciplinary Gender Studies. It is one of the key elements in defining the research and teaching landscape of CGF. Understanding transgender as a non-linear and deterritorialising movement away from birth assigned sex, this field participates in the ongoing project of undoing the western and eurocentric norms of the gender binary.

On 3–6 June, over 275 conference participants gathered in Rome to attend QUIS19 – The 19th International Research Symposium on Service Excellence in Management. This international conference, now considered the foremost in service research, has its roots in Karlstad – and began as an idea at the Service Research Center (CTF). “QUIS was born at a time when services were gaining importance but still remained a relatively unexplored research field,” says Per Kristensson.

Vargo has been presented the Informs Service Science 2017 Best Article Award. – The article uses institutional theory to explain why diversity is important for novel ideas. Institutions here refer to the rules, norms and meanings that guide how people think and act.

The conference was hosted by Fordham University, Gabelli School of Business, New York, USA, and attracted more than 350 service researchers and business leaders from around the world. New Board for CRS

Vice Chancellor Johan Sterte, recently appointed the new board for CRS as the mandate period had run out on May 31. Some members of the board are new, while some guarantee a continutiy to the development of CRS.

We are welcomming Johan Högberg, PhD candidate in Psychology working on gamification in shops at Karlstad University Service Research Centre. At Information Systems Johan will help in several classes; for spring 2016 it will be database design and courses on different web technologies.Johan's engagement at Information Systems will run between 10-20% each semester.   Johan Högberg is preparing for the database design courses guided by Katarina Groth.

Nina Lykke has a background in comparative literature, but her main focus has always been gender. She held a position as researcher in gender studies at the University of Southern Denmark from 1981 to 1999, and headed the university’s centre for women and gender studies during this period. She was appointed to the position of docent [associate professor] at the same university in 1992, with a dissertation on feminism and psychoanalysis.

Activists and researchers have voiced concerns about feminism turning too much to criminalisation. The term ‘carceral feminism’ was coined to describe how feminist calls for law reform have supported the law-and-order agenda in the U.S. At the same time, scholars have opposed this way of framing feminist engagement with law reform and instead argued for a  more nuanced understanding.

The two biggest challenges in mastering transport through heterogeneously active materials are computational intractability, and presence of uncertainty: most microstructures are either active (freely evolving), or have incomplete input data making exact computations impossible. Recently, there has been a significant progress in the understanding of intractability, based on mathematical theory of homogenization  and efficient multiscale numerical methods.

Under dagarna onsdag – lördag hade jag tillsammans med flera av mina kollegor från GiftED förmånen att få lyssna till duktiga talare med lång erfarenhet av Giftedness och gifted education. Dagarna var långa och välfyllda men tiden gick fort.
