CTF, Service Research Center at Karlstad University, are expanding their range of flexible courses for professionals. Registration is now open for courses in digitalisation, customer journey and idea management, two of which are offered for the first time. The courses will start at the end of January and registration is open until 18 January.

PhD studies in English may be pursued with a specialisation in linguistics or literature, and admitted PhD candidates have the opportunity to design their dissertation projects within either of these subject areas. Thirteen PhD degrees have been awarded since 1999, when English was approved as a doctoral discipline.
The PhD programme in English is largely designed individually.
This subproject, "Migration and Transformation of Powerful Knowledge", addresses one of the major social issues of today - migration and cultural encounters. Like the other subprojects in ROSE, this project centres on practice-oriented matters.
Catriona Kennedy was born and raised in the west coast of Scotland and has lived near Edinburgh, in the east of the country, since 1991. Her doctoral thesis focussed on district nurses knowledge and skills in first assessment visits and the decision making involved in planning care and support for people and families at home.

Comparative Literature in Karlstad has a focus on various forms of boundary-crossing in terms of theme, content and interdisciplinarity, for instance. Through traditional literary history studies students learn what borders the modern (1850–1950) and postmodern authors transgress.
On 8 October the fifth edition of the Karlstad Programming Contest took place. The event is organised by Computer Science at Karlstad University. A record number of teams participated and tried to solve difficult programming tasks.
The Karlstad Programming Contest is a leg of the Nordic Collegiate Programming Contest (NCPC), which takes place simultaneously at 19 Nordic universities and university colleges.
Adrian Muntean, Professor of Mathematics at Karlstad University, has been awarded funding by the Swedish Research Council to study the transport of matter through thin heterogeneous layers, that is, thin barriers preventing the free movement of particles.

Johnnie Lindgren, a teacher in physical education at Dallidenskolan in Kil, is Alum of the Year 2025 at Karlstad University. His teaching is based on an innovative approach and new ways of thinking, focusing on motivating his pupils to believe in their own abilities.
Johnnie Lindgren graduated as a teacher in Swedish and physical education in 2009 and feels honoured to receive the award as Alum of the Year.

The usability lab, Ozlab, has been frequently occupied this spring, among other thins for eyetracking-surveys, updating of the manual and introductionfilms.
From the latter half of January we had two German students as internships for 10 weeks, Antonia Appel and Jakob Kümmerle, from DHBW, Duale Hochschule Baden-Württemberg. They helped students conducting various projects on undergraduate and master level with eyetracking equipment.

This is a PhD project which focus on the implementation and application of Motivational interviewing in schools. Motivational interviewing (MI) is a collaborative communication style used to promote individuals’ own motivation and self-efficacy. In seeking to develop and strengthen teachers’ relational approaches and knowledge, and to support pupils’ motivation, interest in applying MI in schools has increased.
Why is primary health care utilization per person almost twice as high in for example the Stockholm region compared to the Östergötland region? The difference in health care utilization between Swedish regions is large and has increased over time.
