2024-04-29Rabia Bayer, tell us about your assignment at Karlstad Business School
– As part of the Erasmus mobility program, I will be joining Karlstad Business School to contribute to the International Business class as a guest lecturer. My role involves delivering a lecture on International Marketing Ethics, emphasizing sustainability within challenging industries such as tourism and luxury. Following the lecture, we will engage in an interactive workshop to explore and discuss strategies for promoting sustainability in these sectors, being mindful of the extent to which they are implemented in ethical ways.
Tell us about your background
– After completing my Master's degree in International Development and Management at Lund University and obtaining my Ph.D. in Marketing from Koç University in Istanbul, I currently serve as an Assistant Professor of Marketing at Lyon Catholic University in France. My academic pursuits revolve around sustainable consumer behavior, with a specific focus on challenging industries such as tourism and luxury.
Any specific research that you could tell us about?
– A recent publication in the Journal of Tourism Review: The paper explores the role of self-transcendent emotions (STEs) such as compassion, gratitude, and elevation within the domain of sustainable tourism. It presents a research agenda aimed at investigating how these emotions facilitate value co-creation in sustainable tourism. Drawing on the literature on the psychology of STEs, sustainable tourist behavior, and value co-creation; the paper identifies potential developments and challenges associated with STEs in sustainable tourism. Employing a service-dominant (S-D) logic approach, it further presents questions for future research.
