Many university researchers belong to research groups, yet little is known about what makes a research group effective or how they benefit members in terms of developing their capacity to produce high-quality research.
2019 was an active and successful year for researchers within SMEER. Several large projects have been completed and others started up during the year, including large research grants from the Swedish Research Council, which includes collaboration with researchers from Germany. SMEER researchers have taken great responsibility for teacher education, not least for the initiative towards postgraduate teachers (KPF).

What is your current line of work?
- I am a project manager at Attityd, an analytics company in Karlstad. In addition to my work as a project manager, which includes the planning of surveys and evaluations, I work with analyses that develop or support organisations in processes of change. At the moment, one of my most common work tasks is to evaluate and monitor several structural funds, both in the private sector and in the public sector.

Geomedia Speaker Series presents a digital seminar
Spatial Justice and Data Justice
February 24
13.00-15.00 local time (Sweden) - (1-3 pm CET)
This seminar explores the ways in which digital technologies and datafication shape and produce new forms of inequalities globally and locally. While much of the research literature discusses datafication in the context of the industrial West, in recent years, more and more focus has been paid to Global South.
Of all organized educational activities, testing procedures are perhaps the most consequential for the learners. The project Testing Talk, funded by the Swedish Research Council between 2013 - 2016 [Reg. no. 2012–4129], we have examined interaction in and the assessment of second language oral proficiency tests, using the speaking part of the national test of English in 9th grade as our empirical case. What happens when two teenagers sit down to take the test, instructed by their teacher?
The research group Relationships and Everyday Interaction (REVA) brings together academics with research interests in the sociology of emotions, everyday and personal life.
”Everyone clapped because they were expected to”, is the title of the C-essay which won the 2019 Essay Award presented by the Region West HR Association. The authors are Emma Hammarberg and Fanny Olsson, who studied the Human Resource Management and Working Life programme at Karlstad Business School.
The winning essay in HR studies centres on organisation culture and loyalty. The jury’s citation was, among other things, that the essay is valuable for the HR profession.
As a resident in Sweden, you can take advantage of the national childcare system, elementary schools and gymnasiums. Most of the day-care centres and schools are run by the municipality, Karlstads kommun, which is also where you find information about all of them including the private ones.
You apply for a daycare place on Karlstad municipality webpage. (Click on 'other languages' in the top right corner for English).
