GiftED doctoral programmeThe GiftED doctoral programme (Forskarskolan GiftED) has funding from the Swedish Research Council 2021-26. It is a partnership between Karlstad, Stockholm and Mälardalen Universities, with 10 current doctoral students. The image GiftED have embraced is of Swedish summer daisies (prästkragar). This image is a twist on the international flower associated with gifted education, the poppy.

The Academic Celebration is one of the biggest events of the year at Karlstad University and a long-standing tradition. On 20 October it is time again and this year we celebrate passion for research – we present and inauguarate our new Vice-Chancellor Jerker Moodysson during this year's celebration. With great pomp and ceremony we will promote our new doctors, award honorary doctorates and inaugurate our new professors.

The Department of Law is part of Karlstad University Business School. We offer a law program since autumn 2017, a master's program in tax law and economics, courses in other programs and a number of independent courses. The pedagogical model that permeates our teaching is built around problem-based learning. We combine theoretical and practical knowledge.

In collaboration with industry experts, researchers at Karlstad University have developed free study material on the technical aspects of privacy on the Internet. This material can be of use to organisations and companies to comply with the EU’s new data protection regulation (GDPR) that will enter into force in just over a month’s time. Living up to the new regulations may prove to be hard work for many companies and organisations.

I am a researcher in English linguistics, focusing primarily on language and interaction in social media. I mainly work with textual materials from popular social media platforms, but often combine this with multimodal discourse analysis. Since 2018, my research has mainly focused on political discourse and metadiscourse in social media.
