On 14 October it is time again – with great pomp and ceremony we will confer degrees on new doctors and honorary doctors and inaugurate our new professors. We will also pay attention to this year’s docents and adjunct professors.

The process of recruiting a new vice-chancellor at Karlstad University is progressing. The recruitment group has unanimous decided to go ahead with professor Jerker Moodysson, the candidate assessed to have the highest merits in regards to the requirement profile.
He is Professor and his work focuses on the geography of innovation and the dynamics of regional economies.

Günter Alce, who recently defended a licentiate thesis in Lund, held a seminar June 17, 2015. Günter and advisers at Sony Mobile and Lund University have developed the WozARd system and has received a couple of study visits from us earlier this academic year.

Elsevier is one of the world's largest scientific publishers. In 2017, Swedish universities paid approximately 120 million SEK for subscriptions to electronic journals to the publisher, of which Karlstad University accounted for almost 1.2 million SEK.

The subject Media and Communication Studies at Karlstad University continues to advance on the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU).
The ARWU, one of the top three most renowned university rankings in the world, now places Karlstad University in the 51-75 range – a nice leap from the 76-100 range of last year.

On November 20–21, the DRIVE project at Computer Science invited partner companies to a joint two-day workshop. DRIVE's overarching goal is to conduct research and education in data-driven and latency-sensitive mobile services for future mobile networks.
This year, participants gathered at Karlstad University to learn about the latest research in the field.
The Department of Law is part of Karlstad University Business School. We offer a law program since autumn 2017, a master's program in tax law and economics, courses in other programs and a number of independent courses.
The pedagogical model that permeates our teaching is built around problem-based learning. We combine theoretical and practical knowledge.

GiftED doctoral programmeThe GiftED doctoral programme (Forskarskolan GiftED) has funding from the Swedish Research Council 2021-26. It is a partnership between Karlstad, Stockholm and Mälardalen Universities, with 10 current doctoral students. The image GiftED have embraced is of Swedish summer daisies (prästkragar). This image is a twist on the international flower associated with gifted education, the poppy.
In collaboration with eleven partners from six countries, Karlstad University is participating in a new EU project that was recently granted funding as part of the programme Circular Bio-based Europe.

Many aspects of medicine and health care are transformed by the ongoing digitisation. Many of the Information Systems group’s researchers have been involved or are involved in research within this area. In the year 2018 we hosted the IEEE conference Computer-Based Medical Systems (CBMS 2018).
After 15 years at Stellenbosch University in South Africa, Annika Rudman chose Karlstad University as her new base.
