The Geomedia panel
How do different social groups navigate today’s mediatized society? How do understandings and uses of geomedia technology change across the life course?

The Geomedia Panel is our research infrastructure for long-term gathering of qualitative interview data via focus groups. Our aim is to understand how different social groups make sense of and navigate the contemporary mediatized society. The panel is particularly interested in spatial aspects of (life with) digital media, for example how people use their mobile phones, digital maps, or social media while traveling.
The panel was launched in 2022 and data has been collected bi-annually since then. Our goal is to build a unique bank of longitudinal data by reinviting original participants for as long a period as possible. Our core cohort is Karlstad residents in the, generally, transformative age span of 20 to 35, living in socioeconomically diverse neighbourhoods.
The Geomedia Panel is envisioned as a core activity of the Centre for Geomedia Studies and a data resource available to all Geomedia researchers, including students at the Master Program in Geomedia Studies at Karlstad University.
