Collaboration on security and crisis preparedness
Karlstad University is engaged in a collaboration with the national initiatives Campus Total Defence and Cybercampus Sweden, as well as a regional collaboration with the Swedish Defence University.

Collaboration with the Swedish Defence University
- As of January 2026, the Swedish Defence University’s local unit in Karlstad will be co-located with Karlstad Univerity. Being co-located on the university’s campus may lead to new and closer collaborations between the Swedish Defence University and Karlstad University. Collaborations may involve both education and research, as well as new funding opportunities. The regional node within the framework of Campus Total Defence may also be enhanced through closer collaboration.

Cybercampus Sweden
Cybercampus Sweden is a national initiative that conducts cutting-edge research, innovation and education in cyber security and cyber defence beyond what is possible for a single university, institute, authority or company.
Several Swedish stakeholders, including government agencies, companies and academia, have joint responsibility for Sweden’s cyber defence. Through its involvement in Cypercampus, the university contributes to training more cybersecurity experts and to developing research and innovation in collaboration with other stakeholders. The university’s researchers and teachers are, for example, involved in developing and exchanging course materials, further developing cyber range infrastructure between Cybercampus and its partners, and leading the Cybercampus graduate school.
