As of the spring of 2020, there have been some changes in UPE’s range of courses and working strategy regarding competence development for university teachers. The change aims at achieving more flexibility.
It will allow more flexible competence development based on the needs and current work situation of the individual teacher.
.. after more than 20 years in working life, you are now taking on a new challenge as an industrial PhD student. How does it feel, and what will your research focus on?
"I have wished for an opportunity to connect my practical experiences with research for a long time, and I am very happy for the opportunity to work as an industrial PhD student at Karlstad Business School, and CTF, in the coming years. My research will focus on entrepreneurship.
Teaching is one of the worlds most important professions. Throughout history knowledge has been transferred from generation to generation.
We develop our education programmes to keep pace with educational revisions and are pleased with the good reputation that teacher education at Karlstad University has always enjoyed.
The Swedish Institute has granted funding for an educational package focused on inclusive vocational training for people with disabilities in Ukraine.
– We aim to formalize the collaboration between Karlstad University and NTU, the National Technical University Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute, says Jesper Haglund, Senior Lecturer in Physics Education. The need to develop inclusive vocational education for people with disabilities has been identified.
Dual-use products are products that can be used both for civilian and military purposes. These products may not be exported outside the EU without permission, and in some cases, permission is also required for transfer within the EU. The university must ensure that all handling of dual use products is carried out in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.

At the department of Chemical Engineering, Karlstad University, we have a strong research environment around forest products and processes. We are performing research of how pulp and paper should be manufactured and of how the paper should be coated and printed.
About 10 doctoral students are enrolled in our extensive postgraduate programme, half of them being employed directly by the industry.
Linking instruction to student achievement
The purpose of this project is to investigate the impact of different instructional strategies on student learning in secondary school. Student achievement data in mathematics and reading is combined with data from classroom video observations and student questionnaires. The study replicates a study that is currently being conducted in Norway and Finland.

Last week CTF, Service Research Center at Karlstad University, together with Experio Lab, hosted a consortium meeting in Karlstad within the European research training network SDIN.
In addition to supervision of the doctoral candidates associated with SDIN, and a board meeting, a public conference was arranged with the intention to disseminate some of the research conducted within the project.
The fifth edition of Karlstad programming contest is arranged at 8 October by Computer Science at Karlstad University. The contest is part of the Nordic championship, Nordic Collegiate Programming Contest.
The contest takes place in teams with up to 3 persons who shall solve a dozen tasks with programming in C, C++, C#, Go, Java, Objective-C or Python.

CRE8® is a fast-paced method for competing in creative problem solving, with an emphasis on innovation. Three to four interdisciplinary teams of students test their problem-solving abilities and pitched their solutions to a jury. The teams are given real cases from researchers, companies and the public sector.

Through the practical placement included in different courses in Civics, contacts are established with the schools which receive our students. In courses which include longer periods of practical placement, the cooperation with schools is enhanced through the visits and other personal contacts that are employed to follow and support the students’ development.
