About the Programme

The Swedish Research Council will launch four calls during 2026–2027. Each call will fund 20–25 Associate Senior Lecturer positions.

Funding Framework

• SEK 3 million per year for five years.
• Possibility of an additional five years at Senior Lecturer level following evaluation.
• Employment as Associate Senior Lecturer at a minimum of 70%, of which at least 50% of full‑time must be financed by the university.
• A minimum of 50% activity in the funded project.

• Medicine and Health, Pharmacy
• Natural Sciences, Engineering Sciences, Agricultural Sciences
• Humanities, Social Sciences, Educational Sciences, Artistic Research

Swedish Research Council Nomination Requirements

To be eligible for nomination, the following conditions apply:

• The candidate may have held an Associate Senior Lecturer position previously, but for no more than six months at the time of the call deadline.
• At least half of the nominated candidates must have an international background, meaning they have had their main employment and research activity outside Sweden during the past four years.
• Nominations must have a gender balance (minimum 40% women and 40% men).
• Each candidate may be nominated by only one university per call.
• Karlstad University may nominate two candidates per call.

Karlstad University’s Nomination Process

Nominations may be initiated either by the research leader in the host environment or by the candidate. The research leader is responsible for assessing the candidate’s suitability and preparing the nomination materials (research plan, merits, publication list) together with the candidate.

To enter Karlstad University’s internal nomination process, the candidate must have the support of the relevant Head of Department. Potential candidates are encouraged to contact a research leader or Head of Department at Karlstad University for further information.

The Head of Department confirms the institution’s support and co‑funding commitment and approves that the nomination proceeds.

Internal selection is carried out by the Research Strategic Council (FSR) and is based on:

a) Strategic relevance: The nomination strengthens a strategic research area at Karlstad University. b) Merits: Assessed in line with the Swedish Research Council’s criteria, with particular emphasis on internationalisation, mobility, and scientific progression. A thorough assessment within the research environment/discipline is expected prior to nomination.
