Zelalem Abay, tell us about your background
– I was born and raised in Ethiopia. In 2014, I came to Sweden to study my Master’s degree in Accounting and Control at Karlstad Business School. Before that I completed Master’s degree in Accounting and Finance at Addis Ababa University and worked as a University Lecturer in Ethiopia. I completed my PhD study from Gothenburg University in 2022 and subsequently joined Mälardalen University as Senior Lecturer.

Veronica Nilsson is studying Social Analysis at Karlstad University. She has always been interested in France and when the opportunity to carry out a traineeship in Paris arose, she jumped at the chance. Her son, Axel, also accompanied her on the trip.

On March 28-29, researchers Katrin Lättman and Margareta Friman participated in the BEST Annual Seminar 2019 in Helsinki, Finland, where they presented current research on the travel habits of different life stages, with focus on the elderly.

Linnea Claesson
Linnéa Claeson is an award-winning speaker, lawyer (Lawyer of the Year 2018), two-time handball world champion, and committed human rights defender. She has spoken in the European Parliament and led non-profit organizations for refugees and homeless people. Additionally, Linnéa is a goodwill ambassador for Kvinna till Kvinna, an organization that works for women's rights.

Karlstad University receives grant of 2 million SEK from the Knowledge Foundation to develop a high in-demand Master’s programme in data-driven mechanical engineering.
- There is an increasing demand for this type of programme, says Anton Tkachuk, Lecturer in Mechanical Engineering and project manager in the development of the Master’s programme. The challenge is to create a degree programme that addresses areas such as data-driven approach and digitalisation tools.

Hotspot is Karlstad University’s annual job fair and one of the biggest in Sweden.
Hotspot was founded by the then Karlstad University and the first Hotspot was arranged 1998. The fair welcomes all students at Kau and all industries. Every year, about 100 exhibitors gather and they all have the same goal: to meet and recruit the competence of the future, Karlstad University students.
The subject of Swedish conducts research in several areas, of which a large portion relates to different points of view on literacy – writing and reading – from a learning perspective. This includes projects on the topic of reading multimodal texts in Years 7–9, digital literacy instruction in teacher education, and the writing development of students in higher education.
