The company Askås introduced itself to around 70 IT students at Karlstad University during a Snits lunch on 21 February. Peter Smersfeldt, HR director and in charge of customer services gave a talk about the company, its e-commerce system and the underlying technology.
Askås celebrates a 20-year anniversary in 2017. Twenty years ago the entrepreneur Jonas Askås started to develop an e-commerce system to sell bicycle components.

The River Ecology and Management Research Group belongs to the Department of Environmental and Life Sciences at Karlstad University. The group mainly focuses on applied research projects concerned with the human impact on streams and rivers as a valuable natural resource and how this impact can be minimised.
The ecological research is focused on fluvial systems and includes both basic research and applied research.

On December 17, 2010, Mohamed Bouazizi, a Tunisian street vendor, set himself on fire as a protest against the autocratic regimes in his Arab country. Bouazizi’s act was captured on film and quickly spread throughout the world. The images and film clips of Bouazizi triggered protests and demonstrations against regimes in other Arab countries. The subject of Swedish conducts research in several areas, of which a large portion relates to different points of view on literacy – writing and reading – from a learning perspective. This includes projects on the topic of reading multimodal texts in Years 7–9, digital literacy instruction in teacher education, and the writing development of students in higher education.
