Good things always happen when influential open-minded and intelligent people meet; this is the simple underlying idea of forming an international network of service researchers.
The inaugural meeting was hosted in September by CTF.
The target audience for the event was mainly leading researchers from the different research centers around the globe and in the end there were 35 attendees from 13 countries.

The service research community received excellent news for its journals from the 2017 Journal Citation Reports (JCR) by Clarivate Analytics. All seven service research journals covered in Web of Science have increased their impact factors from the previous year. Especially notable is the increase of Journal of Service Research’s impact factor from 2.463 to 6.847.

A grant of nearly SEK 10 million from the Knowledge Foundation allows researchers at Karlstad University to launch a new research project dedicated to the contribution of modern digitisation technology to pharmaceutical quality assurance and development. The accelerated rate of development of Covid-19 vaccines has raised the demand to speed up the development process for other pharmaceuticals.

The anonymity network Tor, used daily by millions of users around the world, is important for people in vulnerable situations, for instance in order to avoid surveillance or control. Two Karlstad University researchers have now identified flaws in Tor’s anonymity function and contributed to technologies that make the network safer for users.
The purpose of Tor is to allow users to surf the internet anonymously without information about visited webpages being registered.

Networking and being involved in different activities during your studies pay off. This was clear at this years’ IT dinner on 20 September when students met representatives from companies that are part of Snits, a network linking industry and IT students at Karlstad University.
During the introductory presentation, all ten participating companies emphasised that many students get job offers after completing their degree projects.

The biennial symposium of the Swedish Association of Applied Linguistics (ASLA) will take place on April 12–13, 2018, at Karlstad University. The symposium is co-organized by the Center for Language and Literature in Education (CSL) and the Department of Language, Literature, and Intercultural Studies (ISLI).
The 2018 symposium theme is “Classroom research and language/languaging”.
