Niklas Jakobsson grew up in Edsvalla outside Karlstad. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from Gothenburg University, where he would later complete his doctoral studies.

Olle Calles grew up in Skutskär, where Dalälven meets the Bothnian Sea, and he later moved to Hedemora. He chose the Natural Science Program at Martin Koch-gymnasiet in Hedemora, followed by studies in Biology at Uppsala University 1994-2000.

Annika Rudman was born and raised in Borås, but has family ties to Värmland as her father and grandparents come from Höljes in northern Värmland. She has a law degree and a master’s degree in human rights from Lund University.
After completing her studies in Lund, she moved to Gothenburg where she completed her PhD at the School of Global Studies with a thesis on women’s property rights in southern Africa.

Agne Swerin comes from scenic Bollnäs in Hälsingland. After he finished upper secondary school, he studied Chemical Engineering at the Royal Institute of Technology, KTH. He followed that with doctoral studies focused on paper technology processes.
“In our lives, both individually and as a group, we spend a lot of time focusing on how to minimise the risk of, for example, catastrophes, accidents and poverty. We constantly compare different risks and we assess what risks are acceptable to expose ourselves and others to.”

Anna-Lena Almqvist was born and raised in Umeå, where she also completed her PhD following a bachelor’s degree in sociology at Stockholm University.
Her doctoral thesis focused on how families combine work and childcare in five European countries. She recently started her employment at Karlstad University.
"My most current research focuses on people in vulnerable life situations. It is about bringing their experiences to the fore.
... You have been on “RJ Sabbatical” the past year. What have you been working on?
– The aim of my sabbatical project has been to complete the research that I have conducted within the areas of marketing and service research based on practice theory. Practice theory focuses on understanding reality by studying what people do and the activities in which they engage. In my case, this refers to what marketers do and how this can be improved.

Avit Bhowmik, Assistant Professor in Risk and Environmental Studies, who is going to attend COP28 in Dubai, which starts today, reflects on the SB meeting in Bonn.
The annual Conference of Parties (COP) 28 of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) that will be hosted by Dubai is knocking at the door. Almost everyone who keeps an eye on climate change policy at the global level is by now familiar with COPs.

You have recently, together with Jakob Trischler, published a study that introduces a framework focusing on public services. Could you briefly tell us about the study and its findings?
– The study builds on my previous research on services as value-creating practices. Simply put, it aims to create a reference framework to understand that services consist of concrete value-creating activities in which people actively participate.

Kristina Palm is from Grödinge, 30 kilometres south of Stockholm. She is an electrical engineer, specialised in quality technology. She graduated from the Royal Institute of Technology, KTH.
