Born in Östersund, Jan Nilsson is a qualified nurse who has worked in emergency care. After moving to Stockholm, he studied to become a nursing teacher and worked for a while at what was then known as the Swedish Rescue Services Agency, where he taught Emergency Care and Disaster Medicine.

Helén Williams, associate professor of environmental and energy systems, is particularly interested in sustainability in the packaging industry - especially packaging's role in minimising food loss and waste across the supply chain
The book "Stoppa matsvinnet! – en förpackad lösning" (unofficial translation: Stop Wasting Food — a Package Solution), written by Fredrik Wikström and Helén Williams, was named the winner in the Food, Climate and Environment category in the contest “Årets Svenska Måltidslitteratur 2022”.
Fredrik Wikström and Helén Williams are active at Service Research Center (CTF), as well as at the discipline of Energy and Environmental Technology at Karlstad University.

Recently, one of the world's prime conferences in service research, QUIS16, was arranged at Karlstad University. In the program, several of the founders of the research field told us how it all started, shared valuable insights and provided good advice for continued research and development.

As part of Erasmus+, Kerstin Siakas, professor at the Alexander Institute of Technology, Thessaloniki, Greece, visited the department of information systems in 20-24 April.
During her visit, Prof. Siakas participated in a number of course-related activities such as Bachelor thesis supervision and gave a lecture to students in the courses Business Systems II: Development models and Business by Web and Web Analytics.

Can digital services support people who want to change their behavior? This is what researchers at CTF, Service Research Center at Karlstad University, currently is studying together with Wellness in Värmland.
Many people want to, or have to for health reasons, change their habits to a healthier lifestyle, for example start exercising, eating healthier or quit smoking. Although many want to make a change, it is not an easy task.

Martin Österling is from Karlstad but started his academic career by studying in Uppsala and Gothenburg, resulting in a Degree of Master of Marine Biology.
After receiving his degree, he was awarded a scholarship and studied the coral reefs outside the coast

Having grown up near Karlstad University, Yvonne Liljekvist can practically see all the way “home” from her 5th-floor office in house 21. So it was only natural to get her bachelor’s degree in education with a specialisation in mathematics, science and technology in her hometown.
We are happy to welcome Jonas Hjalmar Blom as a new PhD student in Psychology at CTF. His research will mainly focus on behavioral change and digitalization in healthcare.
- My research will focus on decision making and behavioral change in an economic, ecological and psychological sustainable direction.
Today the development is fast-paced. Many traditional industries and trades will disappear as today’s products and services are being replaced by new, innovative, cost-effective and customized solutions.

Erik Wästlund was born and raised in Karlstad. He began his academic studies with social anthropology at the University of Gothenburg and then continued with psychology at Karlstad University.

Eddie Wadbro was born and raised in Kivik. He studied at Lund University before doing his doctoral studies at Uppsala University. Since finishing his dissertation he has had various employments, most recently as senior lecturer at Umeå University.

Georg Gulyas was born in Säffle. His Hungarian father worked at the city library while his Finnish mother worked at the church daycare centre. He acquired his basic qualification in classical guitar from Malmö Academy of Music.
After completing his degree, he continued his studies at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm, École Normale de Musique de Paris and Juilliard School in New York.
Between 22 and 26 February, researchers from Service Research Center (CTF) visited the Gothenburg Horse Show to study how event participants experience a rotation system with reusable takeaway cups.
The researchers were there to study a rotation system with reusable containers for food and beverages - in this case coffee cups - and gauge event participants reactions. The system will be tested at three events in 2023, and the Gothenburg Horse Show was first up.

Mia Larson was born and raised in Kungälv, where she chose the economy programme for her upper secondary school studies. Her academic career began at the university in Sundsvall, where she studied for the first two years of the economics study programme.
We are happy to welcome Petter Falk, who has joined CTF as a new Industrial PhD student in Political Science.
Petter Falk is a new Industrial Phd student at RISE. He will be supervised by Political Science and Business Administration at Karlstad University and linked to CTF.

We welcome Gabriella Arcese Ph. D in Commodity Science, and Laura Di Pietro Ph. D student in Commodity Science and Quality Management, from Roma Tre University, who are visiting us for the coming three weeks to work with Professor Bo Edvardsson and Ph D Student Kotaiba Aal.
Laura Di Pietro is a Ph D student in Commodity Science and Quality Management at the Department of Business Studies.

”My research is at present largely related to continuity of care – developing and testing near-patient nursing models for fundamental care intended for the elderly still living at home and receiving home municipal home care, as well as the elderly in assisted living facilities.”
Gunilla Borglin was born and raised in Malmö and has worked in health care since she was 17 years old.
The award is given for 'long term and significant contributions to the service research field and to the development of CTF'.
