Researchers at the Service Research Center (CTF) at Karlstad University have been assigned to identify the initiatives and measures that have led to less food being thrown away in restaurants and school kitchens, retail, and households.
How is the concept of sustainable development given meaning in different contexts and what are the consequences? At the moment there are for example several new “green” industrial initiatives in former industrial towns that raise questions concerning how the experiences from previous structural changes influence the attitudes towards ongoing initiatives. Or, what is sustainable regional development?

Raviv Gal does research that he hopes will contribute to healthier watercourses and increased biodiversity. Fewer blackflies, higher biodiversity, and slower decomposition – these are some of the unexpected effects that freshwater pearl mussels have on their surroundings in the stream. Raviv Gal recently defended his PhD in biology at Karlstad University.
The freshwater pearl mussel is one of Sweden's longest-living animals – some individuals can live up to 280 years.

Working after retirement is becoming increasingly common in the Swedish labor market. Statistics from the Swedish Pensions Agency show that approximately 264,000 Swedes have employment income while also receiving their public pension. Many of these post-retirement workers (in Swedish: Jobbonärer, is a blend of the Swedish words for “working” and “pensioner”) are employed through staffing agencies that specialize in retirees.
