On 8 October the fifth edition of the Karlstad Programming Contest took place. The event is organised by Computer Science at Karlstad University. A record number of teams participated and tried to solve difficult programming tasks.
The Karlstad Programming Contest is a leg of the Nordic Collegiate Programming Contest (NCPC), which takes place simultaneously at 19 Nordic universities and university colleges.

In an international and multidisciplinary environment with plenty of research equipment, the conditions are in place mastering challenges and developing as a researcher. Ellen Moons, Professor of Physics, is pleased with the working environment at Karlstad University.

This year, fifteen researchers will receive awards from Riksbankens Jubileumsfond, RJ, The Swedish Foundation for Humanities and Social Sciences, for full-time research up to one year. One of the recipients is Anders Gustafsson, Professor of Business Administration at CTF, Service Research Center at Karlstad University.

On November 7-8, Karlstad University hosted the inaugural Security Divas Sweden, a national conference focusing on cybersecurity and information security that aims to spotlight women in these fields. The event was organized by Karlstad University in collaboration with the Compare Foundation.
The conference welcomed eleven female role models who shared key insights on topics such as information influence, data protection and current perspectives on cybersecurity.

CoARA, Coalition for Advancing Research Assessment, is an international initiative aimed at developing common guidelines and principles for research assessment.
CoARA was established at the initiative of the European Commission together with Science Europe and the European University Association. The objective is to reform the research assessment system and create an international consensus. The overall aim is to increase the quality and impact of research.
For the second time Professor Kai Holzweissig from Duale Hochschule Baden-Württemberg visited the Information Systems department at Karlstad University.

Martin Fransson, Ph. D of Business Administration at CTF, Service Research Center at Karlstad University, has been commissioned by the European Institute of Public Administration to evaluate submitted projects competing for the 2015 EPSA Prize, the European prize is awarded to development projects in the public sector.
There are a total of 264 projects from 36 European countries that are competing and this year’s theme is “The Public Sector as Partner for a Better Society”.

Conference and events at Karlstad University are still within keeping with the criteria of the Green Key certificate.

Green Key is an international certificate in the field of environmental responsibility and sustainability that currently includes nearly 5,000 establishments in 60 countries.
Karlstad University has received support from the Swedish Agency for Growth (Tillväxtverket) to build a research environment for circular forest-based bioeconomy, in close cooperation with the region's small and medium-sized enterprises. The research environment is Pro2BE - Processes and products for a circular bioeconomy.
