Christmas and the New Year are approaching and it is time to sum up another year at Karlstad University. The 25th in order, or the 47th or 181st, depending on how you count. Or the second, for me personally.

Wednesday the 18 November we met up with CSR's board to discuss international collaboration.
We strive for a continuous and constructive dialogue between research centre and board which also means that our board is invited to partake in discussions on our day-to-day activities. This board meeting had an open agenda under the theme of collaboration, nationally and internationally.

The Swedish Higher Education Authority (UKÄ) recently conducted and extensive evaluation of 40 nursing specialisation programmes at 25 higher education institutions in Sweden.
Karlstad is a beautiful city, located at the delta where Klarälven flows into Lake Vänern, the third largest lake in Europe. Karlstad is the county seat of Värmland. The region boasts global leaders in the pulp, paper, steel, engineering and IT sectors.
The sun always shines in Karlstad – if not literally, then figuratively. Karlstad is a pleasant city because of its residents and the surrounding water.
The 5G-DiGITs project has just started, and Karlstad University will play a key role in its development.

At Karlstad Business School you will meet students from all over the world. They study here in Karlstad one semester, one year, two years or at PhD level. Some study only courses and programmes at Karlstad Business School while others take advantage of being part of a whole university and choose courses in areas such as interculture och gender studies.
What is life like as an international student at Karlstad Business School?
Students, alumni and representatives of local IT companies participated in the Karlstad Programming Contest, held on 6 October. At the end of the contest, team Bug Repellent, with Dan Wolff from Altran, Marcus Söder from Sogeti, and Niclas Fredriksson, computer science student at Karlstad University, emerged as winners with four solved tasks.

Digitalization and GDPR have made management of personal data increasingly demanding for many organizations, as well as citizens. Last year there were reports on 2300 personal data incidents to the Swedish Data Protection Authority, of which one quarter concerned the public sector. In addition to legal and technical challenges, there are also questions on how value is created with personal data, and not least on whose terms.

The former chairman of the choir CMB, Mattias Norén, has passed away. Therefore, Karlstad University flags are flying at half-mast today, Monday, May 26. Our thoughts go out to Mattias Norén's closest and all affected choir friends. A memorial service will be held today, Monday, May 26 in the Aula Magna at 6:00 p.m.
Mattias Norén joined the choire when he was studying to be a teacher at the then University College of Karlstad, in the mid-1990s.
