Karlstad Business School in Oxford: Research across the borders
2025-09-10Three research students from Karlstad Business School are currently in Oxford to participate in an international masterclass for graduate students in law. Through seminars, networking and access to world-leading resources, they hope to strengthen both their own research and Karlstad Business School’s standing in the global research community.
For four intensive weeks, three research students Peter Lillieh, Helena Fryklund and Erika Sandström, will participate in the IECL Masterclass for Graduate Students at the University of Oxford – a course that brings together doctoral students from all over the world to delve deeper into the different phases of the research process. The course, organised by the Institute of European and Comparative Law, offers both joint seminars and individual in-depth studies based on the participants’ own research projects.
– We get the opportunity to present our research, engage in discussions with professors and access an enormous amount of literature and databases that are difficult to reach from home, says Peter Lillieh.
Helena Fryklund emphasises the intellectual stimulation and the atmosphere as particularly valuable: – It’s an incredible experience to be in a place with such a rich historical and academic atmosphere. It offers fresh perspectives – not only for my current project, but also for future research.
For Karlstad Business School, the stay in Oxford represents more than just individual professional development. Peter, Helena and Erika can see opportunities for new international collaborations, exchanges and for strengthening Karlstad University’s presence within the global research community.
– This could lead to new connections both in Europe and the wider world, says Erika.
The fact that they are in Oxford is the result of recommendations from colleagues and a shared desire to grow as researchers. Helena explains that their colleague Germaine Hillerström, who took part in the course last year, inspired them to apply.
– It’s so exciting that all three got accepted! It shows that we’re at the forefront, says Erika.
Bringing back new ideas, deeper knowledge and international perspectives, they look forward to returning to Karlstad – and to making use of the experiences from Oxford in their research and teaching.
