What we do
Paper Surface Centre is a prime international research centre for future sustainable functional surfaces of paper and paperboard. It is located at Karlstad University, one of the new universities in Sweden that has been a centre of learning since 1843.
Based on the competence generated from a long tradition and knowledge, the region is a hub of leading expertise within the field of surface treatment and packaging technology. The Centre ventures on the existing processs as well as on radically new functions, materials and processes.
The Centre enjoys supporting competences within Karlstad University which include Pulp and Paper Technology, Mathematics, Environmental and Energy Systems, Materials Engineering, Biochemistry, and Mechanical Engineering. The Centre is a platform within the research environment Pro2BE.
Karlstad University has formed a research centre, Paper Surface Centre, to manage and to develop the legacy of the Surface Treatment Programme and the T2F activities. The vision, goals and organisation of PSC are:
- enable a direct and quick communication to internal and external partners,
- focus and coordinate research activities and resources,
- gather a strong research group (from different disciplines) around the shared visions, and
- thus, increasing the resoruces externally applicable and relevant research projects.
The research activities of PSC will be based mainly on industrially relevant issues, and run as bilateral or consortia projects. University funded projects are associated. As PSC belongs to the Faculty of Health, Science and Technology at Karlstad University and has external members from industry who are part of the scientific council (VR PSC), in project reference groups, and mentors for researchers, higher scientifc quality and industrial relevance of the projects are ensured.
The scientific council, VR PSC, is appointed by the Vice Chancellor of Karlstad University. The scientific council will, among other things, develop PSC’s plans and communication.
