On 1 June, the distance learning recommendation for universities and university colleges is lifted. Teaching and examinations can now gradually start to be held on campus to a larger extent, albeit under restrictions to reduce crowding and the risk of infection.

Researchers at CTF, Service Research Center at Karlstad University, will, within an Interreg Consortium, analyze travel services from a traveler's perspective. The project is funded by the EU regional development fund Interreg Baltic Sea Region. "The purpose of the project is to study vulnerable travel groups and their perceived experience of existing services," says researcher Per Echeverri.

Candida MacKenzie, international coordinator at Karlstad Business School, tell us about the conference - The Business School and Karlstad University's international office participated in the conference together with 7,300 representatives from universities around the world. - This year's theme was "En Route". From Sweden, nine other universities from all over the country participated to market Sweden as a study destination.
The objective of this research project is to analyse counter-urban migration as a relocation strategy in order to improve the social sustainability of everyday life (i.e. better work-life-balance and quality of life) among families with young children in Sweden. Previous research in Sweden on counter-urban migration consists mainly of register based studies failing to address the complexity of factors in everyday life.

G3 - Interplay, aural skills and musical leadership

The G3-test will take place on campus at Ingesund School of Music 29-30 april 2024. DESCRIPTION OF THE TEST The test consists of two components: musical leadership, performed as a group of approximately 8 people, and aural skills, performed individually. The test takes approximately 2 hours. MUSICAL LEADERSHIP AND INTERPLAY You will lead the group in a musical activity that you have prepared at home, lasting a maximum of 10 minutes.

New Board for CRS

Vice Chancellor Johan Sterte, recently appointed the new board for CRS as the mandate period had run out on May 31. Some members of the board are new, while some guarantee a continutiy to the development of CRS.
University of Vaasa (Finland), Karlstads universitet (Sverige) och Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg (Tyskland) genomför tillsammans en tvärvetenskaplig workshop som vänder sig till forskare. Workshopen genomförs på engelska. Syftet är att utforska gemensamma forskningsintressen inom Computer Science, Data-Science och Big Data.

The ongoing effort to limit the spread of infection and protect old people and persons with previous medical conditions concerns society as a whole, including Karlstad University. Many people are worried, of course, about health aspects and about the societal consequences that the measures taken will have.

The additive manufacturing laboratory (AT-LAB) at Karlstad University is equipped with a laser beam powder bed fusion Renishaw AM400 3D printer, but research interests are extended to other methods like electron beam powder bed fusion, directed energy deposition, wire ark additive manufacturing, and others. Research in AM includes the development of process parameters, investigation of microstructure and properties, surface and tribological characterization, and machinability properties.

The Centre for Research on Sustainable Societal Transformation (CRS) will have a new director as of 1 April. Moa Tunström, senior lecturer in Human Geography, will take over when Margareta Dahlström steps down ahead of her upcoming retirement. Moa Tunström defended her doctoral thesis at Örebro University in 2009, “In search of the good city. Constructions of ideals and problems in Swedish urban planning discussion” in the discipline of Human Geography.
