Ozlab visits to Dublin and Huddersfield
2015-05-13The prototyping group at Information Systems received a so-called collaboration cheque from the university to go to Ireland and England.
May 11 Prof. John Sören Pettersson and res.ass. Malin Wik visited Ireland and May 12-13 England. The purpose was to discuss collaboration with a research group at Trinity College, Dublin (and Management Center Innsbruck), and a group at University of Huddersfield, UK.
The Irish group has developed a system for Wizard-of-Oz prototyping for language-based systems and has also made a comparative study of such prototyping for other kinds of systems. Their system is now planned for use together with researchers in Paris for the development of smart home applications. Associate Professor Gavin Doherty expounded on systems for treatment of mental illness and how usability tests have been used in the development of these systems and also what the process for comercialisation has been.
Associate professor John Bonner in Huddersfield has developed several Wizard-of-Oz setups, and is now interested in how lectures and other events can be developed with visual and audio support. Karlstad University's Ozlab system might be a basic technique during explorative realisations of such types of events. In the picture below is also Elena Nikoulina from the International Office.
"Where on earth is Karlstad?!" During the study visits, John Sören took the opportunity to point out where Karlstad is located...
