On December 17th Jan Wallander and Tom Hedelius Foundation announced the recipients of this autumn’s scholarships. The Foundation promotes Postgraduate studies at foreign universities, and one of the recipients is Henrik öhlin, Ph D student at CTF. Karlstad University is testing a new evacuation plan in Building 21 (Vänern). The first person to arrive at the place where the evacuation vest and instructions are placed may evacuate the premises. This applies to staff as well as students. The plan entails that there are trained evacuation leaders, but if they are not present when the fire alarm sounds, others need to take the lead in evacuating the premises.

Special needs teacher programme at Karlstad University continues last year’s well attended network day for special needs teachers and special education teachers, professional practitioners and students on 24 November 2017. The aim is to create opportunities for fruitful meetings within the professional field and between the field and the university. The organisation is similar to last year’s with lectures and seminars on different themes.

Karlstad Business School Day usually takes place in November each year, with a theme linked to our vision. Guest speakers as well as researchers and students at the business school participates, sharing insights and knowledge. CRE8® is a model for innovation-challenge events, developed by the Grants and Innovation Office at Karlstad University. A public or private organization provides a real-world operational challenge to which teams of students try to find solutions. Since it was first introduced in 2017, the CRE8® model has become a very successful concept. With funding from Erasmus+, Karlstad University is now training facilitators to run CRE8® events around Europe.

Master Courses

Litteraturvetenskap » Utbildning
There are two degree pathways at master level: Master of Arts Degree 60 ECTS credits (one year) or 120 ECTS credits (two years). Both provide ample introduction to the basics of research through courses and academic writing opportunities. The 60-credit Master gives eligibility to doctoral studies at Karlstad University and at other universities in Sweden, while the 120-credit Master is a concluding professional education in comparative literature.
SPEAKER: Hamza Chahed, Ph.D. student in computer science at Karlstad University Time-Sensitive Networking (TSN) encompasses Ethernet amendments that enhance determinism in packet delivery for converged networks. Its primary objective is to provide mechanisms ensuring low and predictable transmission latency, coupled with high availability, for demanding applications like real-time streaming, automotive systems, and industrial control.

We asked him what kind of research he is working on within his doctoral studies. - My research area is within service innovation. I focus on different relationships among customers and frontline employees, and their involvement in each of the developmental stages of new services.

We caught up with Ph D Student Miha Uratnik, University of Ljubljana, Slovenien, who is currently visiting CTF. Hello Miha, what brings you to CTF, and what kind of research are you working on right now? - I am visiting CTF for two weeks to meet with Professor Per Kristensson, and other researchers at CTF. My research area is in service innovation with focus on customer relations (e.g. co-creation, co-production) and the role of social media.

A large-scale study reveals that Swedish teenagers who spend a lot of time playing video games excel when it comes to knowing many words in English. Compared to their non-gaming peers, the gamers score significantly higher for particularly difficult words. The study also concludes that the time played is more important than the type of game played for predicting vocabulary scores.
