On 23 October, international students at Karlstad University gathered for an inspiring lecture with the Värmland Chamber of Commerce. The regional job market, career opportunities and key strengths were presented under the theme “Discover the Future of Work in Värmland”.
The teacher and musician Georg Gulyás teaches guitar, chamber music, and guitar methodology at the Ingesund School of Music. After his promotion, he can now call himself a professor.
Georg Gulyás was born in Säffle, and his Hungarian father worked at the city’s library while his Finnish mother worked with the church’s children’s hours. His basic qualification in classical guitar is from the Malmö Academy of Music.

Cornelia Brantner holds a PhD and a master’s degree from the Department of Journalism and Communication at the University of Vienna, Austria.
After her PhD, she had a postdoctoral position which concluded with a few months at the School of Computer Science at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, where she deepened her knowledge of digital methods, such as network analysis.

Christmas and the New Year are approaching and it is time to sum up another year at Karlstad University. The 25th in order, or the 47th or 181st, depending on how you count. Or the second, for me personally.

Lars E. Olsson defended his doctoral thesis on psychology of decision making in the spring of 2007 at University of Gothenburg.
The second Mathematics Meets Industry day (MIMM®) was held at Karlstad University on 12 December. Together with representatives from Rolls-Royce, Sogeti and Uddeholm, upper-secondary students, university students, researchers and teachers tried to find mathematical solutions to problems that are yet to be solved.

It addresses both theoretical and practical implications of online privacy.
Where do you start with innovation? Typically, with a goal in sight – a pre-defined outcome. From here you can forecast what you need to get there; search for, select and invest in the most suitable skills, technology, and other types of resources in a step-by-step manner. This is a conventional causal decision-making style for firms. Conversely you can start with what you already have – existing means – and then creatively work out potential outcomes with these. This is bricolage.
A systematic approach to improvement, development, learning, collaboration and feedback to society are important tasks at a modern, ambitious business school.
