On September 18-20th the 1st Workshop on Service Innovation Research was held at University Magna Graecia of Catanzaro, Italy. A small group of prominent researchers were invited to create a common agenda for how research in the field of service innovation can be developed.
About 30 researchers from Europe and the United States gathered to present and to discuss research. Keynote speaker was Tor.

Since the last meeting, we have had three ministers visiting our university or planning to visit us, we have welcomed an astronaut, 2,500 upper-secondary school pupils, met with the Ministry of Education and Research, organised one of Sweden’s largest job fairs and, of course, many other exciting activities as well.

Description and aim of the workshop
The workshop aims at sharing open problems, new ideas, and mathematical techniques applicable to exploring complex scenarios in materials science. The main goal is to identify potentially interesting research directions to be pursued in the near future.
On 9-11 October the yearly competition, European Cyber Security Challenge, was held and 20 teams of young cyber security talents from 20 European countries solved security-related problems. Simone Fischer-Hübner, professor of computer science at Karlstad University was a member of the jury.

Erik Wästlund, Lecturer in Psychology and researcher at CTF, appears in the latest issue of the popular science magazine Scientific American. The article talks about how people easier understand and remember text on paper compared to text on a screen.
- As a part of my Ph D thesis I conducted a study where I compared reading comprehension between paper and screen. The results showed that text on paper was easier to understand.

LISA-PLOT is a combined research and development project investigating the importance of peer feedback and video-based group reflections for the development of teachers' teaching quality. Teachers are trained to use research-based criteria as a basis for observing and giving feedback to each other on their teaching.
We often hear about the importance of a strong brand. But how does a brand really affect the customer's experience of a service? Results in a new study show how customers’ experiences in service encounters are affected differently by the characteristics of a brand, store and consumer factors.
