Seven out of twenty, or 35 percent. That is the number of research projects at Karlstad University that have been approved and receive funding from the Horizon 2020 EU framework program. The average in EU is 11 percent. One of the projects funded by Horizon 2020 will be led by researchers Bo Edvardsson and Bård Tronvoll at CTF. The Horizon 2020 EU framework program was launched in January 2014.

Markus Fellesson has been promoted to Associate Professor in Business Administration at Karlstad University. His areas of research are on customer-, marketing and organization practice within the service sector. In addition to his research at CTF and Samot, The Service and Market Oriented Transport Research Group at Karlstad University, he also teaches business administration at Karlstad Business School. Most of his research is conducted within Samot.

Friday, September 11 Mr. Nurul Islam Nahid, the Bangladeshi minister of education visited the Center for Climate and Safety. The delegation visit was part of the programme in a collaboration between Karlstad University Professional Services and LIFE Academy. Bangladesh is seen as one of the countries that is affected hardest by climate related risks.

Professor dismissed

A professor at the university has been dismissed due to personal reasons. The background is that the person violated their obligations according to the employment contract by, among other things, refusing to perform certain tasks and being absent from work without approval from their immediate supervisor. By redistributing work tasks, students have not been affected. It is very unusual that the Staff Disciplinary Committee has to make this type of decision.

Marit Engen is our second new postdoctoral researcher that have joined CTF this year. Marit Engen completed her PhD in 2016 at Inland Norway University of Applied Sciences, Lillehammer. Her research interest lies in the area of service innovation, and her doctoral thesis, "Frontline employees as participants in service innovation processes – Innovation by Weaving", focused on service innovation processes, and in particular the involvement of frontline employees.

John Sören Pettersson visited Günter Alce and the VR studio in Lund. Günter Alce, PhD student at Lund University, who gave a presentation in Karlstad in the beginning of the summer about his extraordinary combination of Wizard-of-Oz technique, Augmented Reality, and Virtual Reality, received Professor John Sören Pettersson when he was visitng Lund on Spetember 22.

Hedmark University of Applied Sciences visited Karlstad University and, among else, had a guided tour in Karlstad university's usability lab. Hedmark University of Applied Sciences (HUAS) visited Karlstad University (KAU) during two days, 9-10 June. HUAS has many projects together with KAU. HUAS is one of the project partners in the ongoing project, CriseIT, together with KAU.

Researchers at CTF are currently testing Oculus Rift in CTF Consumer Lab. Oculus Rift is a technique used in the gaming world to maximize the game experience. Through special glasses the user can see different scenarios and the experience becomes more real, like being in the middle of a 3D movie. - Within our consumer research we are conducting studies both in our lab and on-site in stores.

On June 12-15 researchers from CTF, Service Research Center at Karlstad University, Sweden, gathered in Porto for the QUIS15 symposium. The symposium is held every other year and attracts around 250 leading researchers and executives from all over the world. CTF researchers Per Skålén, Carolina Camén and Bo Edvardsson participated in a workshop on Transformative service research.
