Johan Samuelsson grew up on a farm outside of Mariestad in Västergötland. In the mid 1990-s, he graduated with a teacher education degree from Karlstad University with a specialisation in history and religious studies.
Michel Gokan Khan, PhD student in Computer Science at Karlstad University, has developed the “NFV-Inspector”, a free and fully open source platform for optimizing the infrastructure of the next generation of 5G networks.

Guro Gravem Johansen is originally from Troms in northern Norway where she grew up on a farm close to the sea. She is a trained jazz singer with a bachelor’s and master’s degree as well as a PhD in music education from the Norwegian Academy of Music.

Leonardo Martucci is an electrical engineer. He holds a five-year degree in electrical engineering and a two-year master's in the same field from the University of São Paulo. Sofia Wijkmark grew up in Skara, where she studied the humanities programme at upper secondary school. Following graduation, she studied Spanish at the University of Skövde, University of Gothenburg and Universidad de Alcalá, as well as comparative literature and Swedish language at Karlstad University. She completed her PhD in comparative literature at Karlstad University in 2009, and has remained faithful to Värmland ever since.

At Karlstad University, you can study English at all university levels – Bachelor (first cycle), Master (second cycle), and PhD (third cycle). English can be included in all current teaching degrees (in some it is included by default). Furthermore, we offer a wide variety of individual courses in English, at all levels.

On April 16th the EU-funded competition TRA VISIONS 2018 awarded prizes to its young researcher winners of the 2018 Transport Research Arena (TRA 2018). Mariia is a multidisciplinary researcher and artist from Nizhniy Novgorod, Russia, currently living and working in Japan. She earned a Ph.D. from Chiba University Graduate School of Horticulture, transitioning from environmental science and her life as ecologist to the field of landscape participatory planning, discovering greenery's social and cultural sides.
Alan L. Smith is from Rochester, New York, USA. He has earned a BA degree in psychology from the University of Rochester, a MS degree in exercise and sport science from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, and a PhD in exercise and movement science from the University of Oregon. His career within sport and exercise psychology has been at universities as a faculty member and administrator.
Marcus Berg is originally from Umeå, where he also majored in Physics before enrolling as a PhD student at the University of Texas at Austin, which at the time was the biggest university in the U.S. in terms of student numbers, and, not least, had two Nobel Prize laureates in the physics department.
Experts who are open to change view ideas as opportunities and approach idea screening as a generative process, while conservative experts are more reserved in their idea screening activities. These are the findings of a new study where researchers at CTF, Service Research Center at Karlstad University, have examined how a person’s sense of identity influences the way in which they screen early ideas for innovation projects.

Ali Mohammadi has been involved in research on sustainability assessment of bio-based systems since he began his PhD. During his doctoral project at the University of New England in Australia, he studied economic and environmental impacts of biochar and bioenergy production from agricultural biomass.

Renee McDonald has lived most of her life in Texas, United States. She is one of three children of working-class parents. She had a 10-year career as a software and systems developer, attending night classes along the way to work toward a college degree. Realizing she enjoyed the field of psychology, she returned to college full time and then went to graduate school to obtain a PhD in clinical psychology.

Ida Flink was born and raised in Årjäng. After spending a few years abroad following graduation from upper secondary school, she moved to Örebro to enroll in the psychology programme. Immediately after graduation, she went on to doctoral studies at the same university, where the first two years were combined with the practical placement required to become a licenced psychologist.
