26-28 August, PhD students and researchers in the Centre for Natural Disaster Science (CNDS) gathered for the CNDS annual assembly.
For the fift consecutive year CNDS met at Sunnersta Herrgård outside Uppsala to make progress reports of individual research projects and discuss common topics such as interdisciplinary research collaborations in the centre.
This year we reviewed five progress reports and listened to three research presentations.

Judith Kiros, PhD student in English Literature at Karlstad University, has been awarded Sveriges Radios Lyrikpris 2024 for her poetry book “Det röda är det gränslösa”.
– It means a lot to me, says a very happy Judith Kiros.
This is the third literary award that Judith Kiros has received in short succession for her poetry book.

Jenny Karlsson and Peter Samuelsson, both PhD students at CTF, Service Research Center at Karlstad University, Sweden, participated in the AMA Servsig doctoral consortium preceding the 2017 Frontiers in Service Conference held in June 21-22 at Fordham University, New York. Anna-Britt Coe was born in Massachusetts, USA, to a Swedish mother and an American father. She has lived in Washington DC, Lima in Peru and Umeå/Nordmaling and studied sociology at undergraduate and postgraduate level at American University, Washington DC, and completed her PhD at Umeå University.
Valmet’s Tissue Technology Award 2018 goes to Björn Sjöstrand, Ph.D. student in chemical engineering at Karlstad University, for his research and development of computer models for energy efficient tissue production.

John-Erik Hassel recently completed his PhD in business administration at Karlstad Business School and The Service Research Center (CTF) and has done research on venture builders.
John-Erik Hassel, tell us about your research
– My research is about understanding a relatively new actor in entrepreneurial ecosystems called venture builders and how they can be understood in a larger context.
Tobias Hübinette has a Ph.D in Korean Studies, and is Associate Professor in Intercultural Education and primarily teaches Intercultural Studies and Swedish as a Second Language, as well as Gender Studies and Comparative literature.
Hübinette’s research revolves around Swedish critical race- and whiteness studies, as well as adoption, migration, minorities, Korea, Asians and Swedishness. He has, for instance, published the book "Att skriva om svenskheten.

– I was invited by the coordinator of the Law Program at Karlstad University to teach in the course International and European Union Law as part of the Erasmus+ program, says Natalia Seco.

In December 2019, CTF in collaboration with Karlstad Business School arranged a multidisciplinary seminar series to advance knowledge within the research area Service system transformation, and as part of a PhD course in Business administration.
The seminar series Service system transformation focused on global societal challenges, and how transformation of societal systems works.
