An online activist with nationalist, extreme right-wing views is currently enrolled in the course Intercultural studies: race and whiteness in Sweden. The person is very active on social media, where he posts derogatory comments about the course, the students in the course and the course director. The university and its management strongly disagree with his actions on social media.

Karlstad Business School arranges meetings between students and future employers. Breakfast meetings, internship, field trips, degree thesis and writing projects are some examples of such opportunities. The Breakfast meetings are mostly in Swedish, but international students are welcome to join.

This year’s SNITS dinner at Karlstad University was more than fully booked, not surprisingly since employment in the IT industry was on the table – a mouth-watering dish which tempted both businesses and students. On 19 September, 130 students from the different IT study programmes at the university gathered to meet representatives from eleven local businesses in the IT industry.

Every year, the Karlstad business school spring ball is organized for graduate students. Project leader for the spring ball is a graduate students in collaboration with Karlstad business school. Roughly 50 students and professionals in the IT industry met at this year's kick-off meeting for the mentoring program on 19 February. Expectations in the air among both novices as mentors.   Katarina Groth, a teacher of informatics, holding this year's mentoring program. She informed about the framework and gave tips for a successful mentor-mentee relationship. - Being a mentor is to be an interested and good listener and be open to sharing their experiences.

On Wednesday, October 30, the computer science department hosted a thesis project fair to help establish connections between students who have applied for thesis projects for the spring and potential sponsors. 11 companies and organizations participated along with around 40 students. "It was great to see so many people come and want to participate.

Drivhuset

Drivhuset helps students realize their ideas by offering education, networks and coaching. The first Drivhuset started in Karlstad and is now active in 14 places throughout Sweden. Drivhuset (The Greenhouse) supports students at the University on their way to a viable enterprise. The goal is to create a positive attitude to entrepreneurship and get more students interested in realizing their ideas.

Sammankonst is a creative relay involving students of dance and music production at Karlstad University and the Ingesund School of Music. This year’s performance is inspired by the River Klarälven and will be presented on five occasions, Friday and Saturday! It is a long-standing tradition for dance students and music production students to co-create a public project based on their own creative forms of expression.

You just came back from Bonn, Germany, what did you do there? - I participated in a doctoral course on decision making at Max Planck Institute for Research on Collective. Interesting, can you tell us more about the course? - In the course we studied how to create and test models on how we think when we make decisions.

Agreement signed with Github

Karlstad Business School has signed a partnership agreement with Github – an online Community and subsidiary of Microsoft – to offer students and teaching staff the opportunity to cooperate and contribute to different IT projects without cost. Revision control of source code is very important in all development and management of systems. GIT is a system for revision control developed by the Linux creator Linus Torvalds.

Renee McDonald has lived most of her life in Texas, United States. She is one of three children of working-class parents. She had a 10-year career as a software and systems developer, attending night classes along the way to work toward a college degree. Realizing she enjoyed the field of psychology, she returned to college full time and then went to graduate school to obtain a PhD in clinical psychology.
