Start of the IT mentor program
2015-02-20Roughly 50 students and professionals in the IT industry met at this year's kick-off meeting for the mentoring program on 19 February. Expectations in the air among both novices as mentors.
Katarina Groth, a teacher of informatics, holding this year's mentoring program. She informed about the framework and gave tips for a successful mentor-mentee relationship.
- Being a mentor is to be an interested and good listener and be open to sharing their experiences. But it is the student, mentee, who is the one who is driving, want to know, have goals and aspirations. Take yourself seriously as a mentee, stay in touch and take the opportunity to practice your social skills in networking. To meet approximately once a month usually be optimal, told Catherine Groth.
Each student had previously received jot down a few lines about the expectations and any requests and thus matched with suitable mentors. The mentors have had determined the direction they want on their mentees, that is, from what programs they will. The mentors come from both industry and the public sector and from various IT areas.
The mentoring program is aimed at students who fall begins its final year and who actively register their interest. The program lasts one calendar year with a final hit and evaluation just before Christmas.
