”Doing research in a field related to digital technology means aiming at a mobile target because of the rapid development.” Ann-Britt Enochsson grew up in Eda in western Värmland. While in senior high, she took a break from school and worked for some months in Helsingfors, so when she graduated she wanted to learn Finnish and was admitted to a course at Stockholm University, which was her first contact with the academic world.

...you have recently spent a week in Croatia on an Erasmus exchange. What did you do there? - I have been at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing (FER) at the University of Zagreb. This is the most prestigious university and engineering faculty in Croatia. I was there for one week on Erasmus teaching mission. I held lectures in two courses, gave student consultations for master and PhD students and I held a research colloquium.

... You have been on “RJ Sabbatical” the past year. What have you been working on? – The aim of my sabbatical project has been to complete the research that I have conducted within the areas of marketing and service research based on practice theory. Practice theory focuses on understanding reality by studying what people do and the activities in which they engage. In my case, this refers to what marketers do and how this can be improved.
“Our research is on how side streams from the paper industry in particular can be used as raw material in various processes. The aim is to create new materials and products from what used to be seen as waste.” Karin Granström grew up in Trelleborg and studied at the Faculty of Engineering, LTH, in Lund from 1993 to 1998 to earn a Master of Science in Chemical Engineering.

You have recently, together with Jakob Trischler, published a study that introduces a framework focusing on public services. Could you briefly tell us about the study and its findings? – The study builds on my previous research on services as value-creating practices. Simply put, it aims to create a reference framework to understand that services consist of concrete value-creating activities in which people actively participate.

Anna-Lena Almqvist was born and raised in Umeå, where she also completed her PhD following a bachelor’s degree in sociology at Stockholm University. Her doctoral thesis focused on how families combine work and childcare in five European countries. She recently started her employment at Karlstad University. "My most current research focuses on people in vulnerable life situations. It is about bringing their experiences to the fore.

Cornelia Brantner, Professor of Media and Communication Studies

Cornelia Brantner holds a PhD and a master’s degree from the Department of Journalism and Communication at the University of Vienna, Austria. After her PhD, she had a postdoctoral position which concluded with a few months at the School of Computer Science at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, where she deepened her knowledge of digital methods, such as network analysis.

The Mediatization of Space through navigational interfaces, or: the digital map as a symptom of (almost) everything that has happened with media. After a phase of “spatial forgetfulness,” media and communication studies have revisited the intersection of media, space, and place, challenging earlier views of media inherently transcending geographical constrains leading to spatial annihilation and the disappearance of distance.

Tourism, popular culture and media - Stijn Reijnders has an interdisciplinary approach to examining the role and meaning of locations in popular culture. Stijn Reijnders is a full professor of Cultural Heritage, specialised in tourism and popular culture. He is active at the Erasmus University Rotterdam and his research is focused on the intersection of media, culture and tourism.
Karlstad University has received support from the Swedish Agency for Growth (Tillväxtverket) to build a research environment for circular forest-based bioeconomy, in close cooperation with the region's small and medium-sized enterprises. The research environment is Pro2BE - Processes and products for a circular bioeconomy.
