Guro Gravem Johansen is originally from Troms in northern Norway where she grew up on a farm close to the sea. She is a trained jazz singer with a bachelor’s and master’s degree as well as a PhD in music education from the Norwegian Academy of Music.
Jorryt van Bommel was born and raised in the Netherlands, where she also graduated as a teacher in mathematics in 1997. After moving to Sweden in 1999, she began work as a teacher educator at Karlstad University in the autumn of 2000, and later started her PhD studies in 2005.
“My research revolves around mathematics education, for example, how the subject is introduced to children when they start school.
Nanna Fyhrquist was born and raised in Helsinki, Finland. Her academic journey began at the University of Helsinki, where she studied biology and later earned her PhD in 1999.
She went on to be appointed as a docent in physiology and neuroscience at the same university.
Hanna Bertilsdotter Rosqvist started her research career in sociology and gender studies at Lund University. She completed her PhD in sociology in 2007 with a doctoral thesis on male bisexuality, as part of the Gender Research School at Umeå University. She has since taught and conducted research in interdisciplinary settings at various universities in Sweden.
Stig-Börje Asplund was born and raised in Torsby. After graduating from an upper-secondary school programme for athletes in Karlstad, he studied to become a teacher during the mid-1990s, back when Karlstad University was still a university college.
Following his teaching degree, he went on to work as an upper-secondary school teacher in Swedish and history for 17 years. In 2005, he began his PhD studies at Karlstad University, while continuing to teach part-time.
Tell us about your current research
- My research is developing knowledge about digitization practices and its consequences to users, organizations and society as well as the design and visualizations for the development of digital practices, resources and artifacts.
The Mediatization of Space through navigational interfaces, or: the digital map as a symptom of (almost) everything that has happened with media.
After a phase of “spatial forgetfulness,” media and communication studies have revisited the intersection of media, space, and place, challenging earlier views of media inherently transcending geographical constrains leading to spatial annihilation and the disappearance of distance.
Karlstad University has received support from the Swedish Agency for Growth (Tillväxtverket) to build a research environment for circular forest-based bioeconomy, in close cooperation with the region's small and medium-sized enterprises. The research environment is Pro2BE - Processes and products for a circular bioeconomy.
Tourism, popular culture and media - Stijn Reijnders has an interdisciplinary approach to examining the role and meaning of locations in popular culture.
Stijn Reijnders is a full professor of Cultural Heritage, specialised in tourism and popular culture. He is active at the Erasmus University Rotterdam and his research is focused on the intersection of media, culture and tourism.

On September 5-6 CTF gathered for the annual research meeting, this year held at Tanumstrand at the swedish west coast. What was on the agenda for the meeting?
– We had two things on the agenda for our meeting, impact and applications. The theme for this year was impact, but not academic impact!

Carl Unander-Scharin was born in Stockholm in 1964 and graduated from Adolf Fredriks musikgymnasium in 1983. He continued his studies at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm, where he studied church music, choir education and the supplementary teacher education.
We are happy to welcome Stephen L. Vargo, Shidler Distinguished Professor and Professor of Marketing at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, who will be visiting us this week.
