Datavetenskap vid Karlstads universitet har tillsammans med internationella partners i projektet RITE, Reducing Internet Transport Latency, lanserat en film som på ett enkelt sätt förklarar de faktiska problemen bakom fördröjningar på Internet. It is sometimes said that we live in a media society. What does that really mean? What role is played by the media in our lives? Why does media content look the way it does? How do we use the media – in our private lives and at work? And how do the media actually influence our view of the world and of ourselves? These are some of the questions that we try to answer in Media and Communication Studies.
A working method for highlighting different values of the forest has been developed within the project Ingoskog. The method is based on a further development of the Norwegian concept of landscape resource analysis and has attracted interest, most recently at a seminar with Region Värmland.

The project “The Ups and Downs of Literary Value: Case studies of Swedish and American literature 1900–1970” is conducted by KuFo researchers Anna Forssberg and Anna Linzie.
What increases and decreases literary value? Some authorships survive, but what happens to the others?
The research project “Sámi ‘Trail of Tears’ Walking Trail” has now been completed. Richard Ek, professor of human geography and project leader, talks about the importance of the control being with the indigenous population and that the culture surrounding Sápmi is extremely important in keeping the stories surrounding the forced displacement of the Sámi alive.
– Our findings have confirmed what we’ve known all along, Richard Ek explains.

Researchers at CTF have been granted 5.3 million SEK for research on energy-efficient commuting. The main financer of the project is the Swedish Energy Agency.
In the project, researchers Lars E. Olsson and Margareta Friman both active at CTF, Service Research Center and Samot, The Service and Market Oriented Transport Research Group at Karlstad University, will develop new knowledge and methods for energy-efficient travel.

Robots, drones and intelligent systems interacting with humans were some of the topics raised during the WASP-HS graduate school's winter conference. One of the participants was Petter Falk, PhD student at CTF.
WASP-HS funds a large number of PhD students to give them the best possible start towards becoming the AI researchers of tomorrow.

Miljödata, which provides the system Adato for documenting long-term sick leave and rehabilitation, has been targeted in a cyberattack. The extent of the attack is still unclear, and it is not yet confirmed whether any personal data has been leaked.
Karlstad University was notified about the cyberattack on Monday morning, 25 August.
