When research is to be evaluated, quantitative methods have historically been important. Primarily, great importance has been placed on bibliometric methods, that is, measuring publication volumes and the number of citations for the publications. In recent years, however, such methods have been debated, which has led to an ongoing reform of the evaluation system that includes an upgrade of peer review as a method for analysis, and a more cautious use of quantitative methods.

What do you do today? “I am an assistant auditor at Grant Thornton and work in Karlstad. After graduation, I immediately got a job at PWC in Norrköping. I really felt that it was the right job for me, but my girlfriend was still in Karlstad and a long-distance relationship is not that easy. So I moved back to Karlstad and switched to Grant Thornton. This time it was also easy to find employment because of what I had studied at the Karlstad Business School and my theoretical background.

What do you do today? “I am a travel consultant and salesperson at Specialresor in Karlstad. I am responsible for Ireland, Paris and the Champagne region. I work on all of the tours we offer to these places, put together packages, organise guides and work with our agents on location. I also present lectures on these destinations and sell our tours to our clients. We mainly work with corporate clients, for example with customer care tours, staff tours and association tours.

We receive district heating and electricity from cogeneration plants (also known as combined heat and power plants). In the future they might also produce bio-oil, which can be used as biofuel or replace fossil oil in the chemicals industry.

Four computer science students at Karlstad University have been recognized for their exceptional project work in the Software Engineering course. The project team, comprising Jonatan Altebro, Viktor Hajto, Martin Ramnér and Elmar Gebre Yekuno, earned high praise from faculty for their professionalism and innovation. The team developed GoldenYears, an Android application designed to support elderly users in maintaining their physical, mental, and emotional well-being.

Research on people's sleep habits is important for understanding which habits and circumstances are associated with normal sleep and sleep problems, and to find out which treatment techniques can be helpful when people have slept poorly for a long time. The first recommended treatment for insomnia is cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). In short, the treatment involves mapping one's sleep habits and testing new behaviors and thought patterns related to sleep.

In the course Business Development from a Process and Partnership Perspective, students at Karlstad Business School have been given the opportunity to collaborate with several organisations. Students have been helping to map out business processes and develop improved work procedures using digitalisation.
