Lars Järnström, professor of coating technology, came to Karlstad University in 1999 and has been involved in building the current strong research environment for fibre-based processes and products. Now retirement is approaching but he will continue working at the university as senior professor.
Lars Järnström's research centres mainly on environment-friendly surface treatment of fibre-based packaging materials.

- This is a recurrent international summit at top level with a focus on sustainable bioeconomy. I attended as head of CRS, as coordinator for the research project Ingoskog and due to my involvement in our other projects regarding bioeconomy.
- My fellow researchers from Karlstad, Ida Grundel and Marie Nordfeldt, were also at the summit.

The Academic Celebration is one of the biggest events of the year at Karlstad University and a long-standing tradition. Presentation of abstractEvery teacher in New Zealand is considered a teacher of gifted students, a reflection of our inclusive education system. However, some teachers have developed specialist knowledge and skills through tertiary education and research.

Birgitta Haglund was born in Halmstad and lived there until graduating upper secondary school. After general psychology studies in Gothenburg, she was admitted to dentistry school.
Researchers at CTF have been granted 3.9 million SEK for research on future customer experiences. In the project the researchers will develop new knowledge on how to make retail and the hospitality industry more attractive through digitalization.
- The progress of digitalization leads to new ways to consume goods and services and physical stores are finding it increasingly difficult to compete with e-commerce.

Within the project TRUEdig, CTF and Elvenite are developing new knowledge that can support a sustainable development in the food industry.
TRUEdig focuses on digital integrity and how businesses that develop privacy-enhancing services can increase the user’s security and sense of empowerment. Elvenite is one of the partner companies within the project.
– The purpose of the research is to widen the scope of sustainability work in the food industry.
The capacity for innovation has decreased according the latest results by the Swedish Innovation Index where the Service Research Center (CTF) at Karlstad University asked thousands of customers to rank the innovativeness of Swedish companies, organisations and authorities.

Annika Jonsson is an associate professor of sociology at the Department of Social and Psychological Studies, and active in REVA. With a background in interactionism, feminist theory, and the sociology of religion, she researches death and continuing bonds. She has published articles in journals such as Death Studies and Contemporary Social Science.
Andreas: You have a new book in Swedish, Continuing Bonds: How People Live with Their Dead.
In a new doctoral thesis from CTF, Pernille K Andersson is investigating how the servicescape is changed by the influence of music, self-disclosure, and eye gaze on service encounter experience and approach avoidance behavior.
- Our feelings and behavior are continuously affected by our surroundings. Stores have servicescapes which have a big influence on customer’s experiences and purchase decisions, says Pernille K Andersson.

Presentation of abstractFor over a decade I have researched the possibilities and opportunities offered when encountering mathematics through problem solving at school entry. At first, we tested ways to implement problem solving in a setting where students could not (yet) read or write.
In a recently published CTF article, researchers Frida Skarin, Lars E. Olsson, Margareta Friman and Erik Wästlund address the factors that affect behavioral changes in public transport.
The researchers have studied a two-week free public transportation-trial where people, who fulfilled certain criteria, were allowed to travel free of charge by public transport for two weeks.

Researchers at CTF, Service Research Center at Karlstad University, have been granted funding from the research council Formas, to plan and further develop the project "Social dimensions in urban and regional planning: the importance of perceived accessibility".

Many of the music teachers who are active today studied at Ingesund School of Music. One of these teachers is Henrik Bengtsson, who graduated in 2016. Today, he teaches music in a primary and lower-secondary school in Trollhättan. In addition, he also works as a freelance musician, on his own as well as together with his wife, who also studied at Ingesund.
To be able to apply a broad approach as a music teacher is important to Henrik.
