The Academic Celebration is one of the biggest events of the year at Karlstad University and a long-standing tradition. On 14 October it is time again – with great pomp and ceremony we will confer degrees on new doctors and honorary doctors and inaugurate our new professors. We will also pay attention to this year’s docents and adjunct professors.
Freedom – a beautiful word with so many meanings that we, living in Sweden, often take for granted. Freedom of speech, freedom of religion, academic freedom, democracy and the opportunity to make independent decisions as an individual and choose our own path in life.
Recent events have caused the world to stop and watch an entire nation being stripped of these rights. An event that we never thought we would have to experience again in Europe, and which has given the concept of freedom another dimension in 2022. In the light of this, the theme of this year’s Academic Celebration is freedom.
Formal celebration with a warm atmosphere
This year, we present 9 new professors at Karlstad CCC in Lerinsalen at 09.00-11.30. [IS1] The event at Karlstad CCC will also include a discussion with the university’s two new honorary doctors, led by moderator Jan van Stam, Professor of Physical Chemistry.
Both staff and students are welcome to attend the academic celebration lectures and the ceremony in Aula Magna. The number of places is limited – first come, first served!
